Intense, emotional, aggresive, disharmonic, melodic, spheric, melancholic, angry... This does not seem like the type of thing I'd love. But guess what? Upon joining Sputnikmusic, I noticed almost immediately that this album was held in very high regards. I ****ing knocked this one kids face in once. This album is pretty much like knocking face in for 45 minutes, plus breakdowns. I did not at all expect to like Das Seelenbrechen, but to be truthful, this kicks BUTT. That's right, BUTT. Das Seelenbrechen is sort of like the school bully that brutally beats you up every day and steals your lunch money, but over time becomes your best friend.

I've never been a huge fan of his solo stuff, but I've never disliked any of his stuff either. This one is too proggy and abstract for me.

Was bit skeptical about this at first since it Eremita came out so I thought it was going to be rushed to an extend and unpolished. I'm really happy I was wrong about that. Only problem is that the first half of the album is so good that the rest of the tracks just don't compare even though they are pretty good anyways.

Ihsahn has returned with a an album that is heavily experimental, yet is also an interesting listen. Although the first few tracks on the album stand out far more than the closing tracks, the album is a whole is an impressive effort that stands out more than last year's Eremita.
