| 3.5 great | mkamrass | July 20th 13 | First of all, there is way too much hatred for this album. Just because Varg went
completely from black metal with some keyboard work to completely only playing keyboards on
this album does not mean people have to dislike it, in fact, the people who do not like this
album are probably "hardcore" black metal heads. This album can become a little repetitive
at times, but for the most part, it is good and relaxing music that has a good medieval
sound to it. It also conveys some different emotions.

| 1.5 very poor | Tyler EMERITUS | December 25th 06 | I just...I don't know what to say to this. This album proves that Varg Vikernes is either certifiably insane or far too sure of himself, and either way, it makes for a laughably horrible album. Sure there are some decent melodies, but no the whole it drags on like an imprisoned lunatic playing a toy piano. Actually, it basically is an imprisoned lunatic playing a toy piano.

Seig Heil.

| 2.0 poor | EasterInTheBatcave | December 15th 15 | Recorded on a synthesizer by necessity-- Varg wasn't allowed access to instruments while in prison-- Daudi Baldrs contains nothing more than synthetic, chintzy Medieval-inspired music. It's not terrible, but it's barebones.

| 3.5 great | DoctorVelvet | March 1st 13 | Though I understand where the hatred for this album comes from, I will say that it is one that you have to "get" to enjoy. Daudi Baldrs takes the listener through the tortured, dungeonous mind of a Norwegian arsonist and murderer. Though the sounds on this album are of the dreadful quality, a tone is achieved and manages to convey sadness, anger, and torment--and in some way the low quality MIDI sounds work in the album's favor. Never have I heard such minimalism instill so much darkness in my ears. I am in the vast minority when I say that I fully understand what Vikernes was trying to do with this album (though that's not to say anyone is wrong for disliking it). There is only one serious gripe to be made, and that is the pure repetition that is found. Once you hear the first 30 seconds (and often less) of a song you have essentially heard the rest of it. Strangely (and as with the low quality MIDI samples) this repetition somehow works in the album's favor, but when some songs approach 10 minutes long, even I can admit that these melodies have overstayed their welcome.

| 1.0 awful | ManiacBlasphemer | September 24th 19 | Look, I can understand if this is trolling and I can imagine Varg trolling his hipster audience with such minimalist amateur hour ambient drivel, however, to my surprise, I can find this dross in frigging vinyl format!! Which begs the question, who is so tone-deaf to actually find some glimmer of musical quality in this record? The answer is hipsters! If it weren't for hipsters, who essentially do not listen to an album because of the music, but because of Varg's 'legendary' shenanigans, Burzum would have been a forgotten project by now. I can understand the interest for Varg's early 90s output. There is musical quality there and some effort put in actually making good music. But here? This is cringe-worthy only. And labeling it as dungeon synth is a travesty. This is HACK noise packaged as some serious musical record. Avoid.

| 1.5 very poor | Risodo | May 9th 18 | "Daudi Baldrs" is very strange, showing itself as a lost element in Burzum's discography. All the songs look like uninspired versions of game soundtracks like Age of the Empires, Skyrim and DOOM. Without any creativity and even in a annoying way, Varg Vikernes managed to do his worst complete work in "Daudi Baldrs". Revisiting this record in the future is neither a option... so i prefer to listen to the noise of my shit hitting the toilet than that.

| 1.5 very poor | thurs | October 18th 17 | Just because it was released by Varg doesn't mean you should subjugate yourself to listening to MIDI music that would only be mildly acceptable as BGM for an old school RPG.

| 1.0 awful | Ayil | November 29th 14 | Euronymous was a twat and was probably gonna be stabbed anyway. In the case of an equally big twat (Varg) stabbing another twat, I'm gonna want the twat that makes the better music to live. For this reason, I sometimes wish Varg was not the victor. his releases after being shoved in the slammer are a fucking joke. The album had something going for it, and very well may of sounded better had he actually used real instruments but it failed in every sense of the word.

| 3.0 good | Futures CONTRIBUTOR | May 10th 24 | not bad at all. ok the farting horns on the title track are pretty bad and the 10 minute three note piano song never ends. there is a ton of repetition as common with varg's work but it does work at creating an atmosphere especially on "moti ragnarokum" which has a nice soaring build. the cheapness to the synths are a hindrance but also are pretty charming in an odd way. definitely gives runescape vibes especially on "i heimr heljar" which depending on you is a good or bad thing. perfectly good background listening for whatever honestly. this album re-recorded with top notch equipment would probably be really great but as is an interesting experiment given the circumstances it was made under.
check out: "balferd baldrs" and "moti ragnarokum"

| 3.5 great | Hot Bowser | November 25th 22 | and thus dungeon synth was born!! using their ultra-super powers, varg, the norwegian justice system, and diablo nerds everywhere created the ultimate medieval inspired genre that no medieval listener would ever recognize and instead burn varg at the stake for even suggesting it while forgiving him of such a common sin as murder! highlight in moti ragnarokum

| 2.0 poor | Nash J! | February 27th 14 | Incredibly repetive and rather boring, this album takes its interesting ideas and delivers them in the most dull way possible. Most songs begin with potential, but quickly lose momentum after the first minute or so. Altogether, this album has nothing to offer.

| 0.0 | Wreath | April 30th 12 | I actually like some melodies on here but listening to repetitive MIDI sounds for 40 minutes won't be more likely to entertain you than to cause a major headache and it's ultimately just quite ridiculous to be honest.
