1.5 very poor | SandwichBubble | February 26th 16 | The 1975 sound like 2003, and I mean that in the worst way possible.

3.0 good | Monstar1790 | September 3rd 13 | The 1975's full-length debut boasts some of 2013's strongest singles but ultimately fails as an album. "Heart
Out", "Settle Down" and "She Way Out" are forgettable and redundant in such close proximity to one another,
while "Robbers" piles on the melodrama and "Is There Somebody Who Can Watch You" feels entirely out of
place given the rest of the subject matter here. Worse yet, the mostly superfluous interludes feel misplaced:
"The 1975" would likely fit better with "Settle Down", and "An Encounter" seems destined to play before
"Robbers". Although nothing here is outright BAD, it's pretty disappointing to see a band with such a knack for
great EPs miss the mark in a longer format.

3.0 good | Antonius | July 11th 23 | An album with pop tendencies and an indie rock character, having more a 90s feel rather than a 2013 one. Songs have a radio-friendly tendency and some of them tick all the relevant boxes for this purpose. However, the point where this album becomes unappealing for my taste is the electro-R&B moments and the melodramatic vocals with some whininess. In a nutshell, the album's best moments where shared through the four singles. Recommendations: "The City", "Girls", "Talk", "She Way Out"

5.0 classic | IsildursBane44 | October 9th 21 | Music for John Hughes teenager character types to live by. A slick coming of age/night on the town album filled with flawed people and sad stories hiding under the disguise of 80's pop goodness. Though this album is to thank for several garbage "alt" groups that came after, this stands true as an album that stuck to its vibe just long enough to be congratulated by those willing to step inside the world of The 1975.

2.4 average | Erwann S. STAFF | April 27th 21 | This is the perfect album to talk about insipidity. Unmistakable 80s aesthetics, synthpop, pop rock, and a great production: this should please me. It should, but dear lord are these songs not interesting in the slightest sense. It's neither obnoxious nor painfully repetitive, it's just that most songs are simply unmemorable, and that might be the greatest criticism you could ever land at a pop album. A couple of cool tunes, a swarm of ok ones that pass you by.

1.0 awful | JasonCarne | July 23rd 17 | The paragon of soulless, squeaky-clean, utterly gutless post-2000 "rock".

3.0 good | gofrosty | November 13th 15 | I had a bunch of friends who would go on and on about how much they love this band. I gave it a listen and was immediately turned off by Matt Healy as a vocalist. I gave it a few more listens and decided that not only did I not like his style of vocals, I also felt he didn't even do his own style justice. Some time later I gave it another chance and found that I was intrigued by some of the drum work, which is snappy and really quite busy in comparison to other pop rock music, and some of the guitar bits, which are slick and melodic. Begrudgingly I listened some more and found that I couldn't not enjoy this album. It is too fun for me to not enjoy: danceable beats on many songs, slick and polished aesthetic, and variety of different sounds. I am a bigger fan of the sugary, r&b influenced songs (i.e. Settle Down, Pressure, and Menswear) but some of the straight guitar pop is good fun (such as Sex and Chocolate). Its fun if a bit jumbled as a full album, still worth a listen.

3.0 good | iGuter | September 19th 13 | The 1975's debut is full of funky beats and youthful rebellion; definitely the perfect soundtrack for a summer of lust. As it goes, it's odd to say that the album overstuffs itself with filler that either doesn't fit the atmosphere or slows it down. If the album was shorter and had a consistent tone throughout, this could've been one of the better releases this summer. Instead, it's a cluttered mess of ideas that feel like filler. Some of the more upbeat tracks will overshadow most of the album's dull moments. Tracks such as "Chocolate", "Girls", and "Settle Down" are some of the more fun tracks, while "The City" and "Sex" are stand out tracks for their heartfelt tales of youth. This is an album to pick apart, but it's tight enough to listen with an open mind and heart.

3.0 good | AgainAnd | September 11th 13 | Perhaps one of the reasons pop music is so electronic these days is not having to waste your
money on guitarists, drummers, etc. After all, everyone knows pop is about the money. But is
it better for it? The 1975 argues, not completely unconvincingly, it's not. They lack greed
just enough to bear sharing profits with one another, and so we get an album of pleasing if
unremarkable pop with guitars, drums, all that good stuff.
