Simply put, this record is a whole load of fun. This was hip-hop before the Wu-Tang Clan: light-hearted, goofy, almost whimsical. Naturally, it lacks the grit that would come to be found from East Coast giants like Nas and Mobb Deep, but is still an incredibly enjoyable, sample-based record.

I used to have my mom's CD of this but lost it, later realizing its pretty rare and expensive for the samples I assume. I'll get another copy some day. anyways. This is one of the best rap albums

This album has some catchy 80s beats and lyrics that stay away from the "flair rap" that I despise, which are two BIG pluses in my book. Unfortunately, this album is short of the aggression alongside w/ too many filler tracks. The 1st half of the album had a 5:6 ratio of fillers to the main tracks. The fillers make this "abstract concept" of a hip hop album certainly different (uniqueness = [another] plus), but certainly more difficult to process than other hip hop albums such as It Takes A Nation of Millions (Public Enemy) or People's Instinctive Travels (A Tribe Called Quest). The 2nd half's ratio is more bearable but not by much (4:6, and De La Orgee [definite filler] was the worst). This album makes an impression as a different hip hop group w/ this album for sure, but certainly an album w/ not much repetitive value (for me).

3 Feet High And Rising contains some classics tracks with perfects samples ('The Magic Number', 'Tread Water', 'Buddy'), some really cool skits ('Transmitting from Mars', 'A little bit of soap') and an undescriptible ambiance. There's no doubt Prince Paul's work on this cd had influenced a plethora of producers, and all those hippie subjects can easily light your day. Nevertheless, I admit it suffers being too long, and some skits cut the album rythmn. Still, this is excellent.

It despresses me a ltitle just how much I've outgrown this record. When I discovered it, it was one of the first times I'd been exposed to hip-hop that went beyond gangster clich?it seemed every bit as technicolor, inventive, and majestic as it's always made out to be. But a few years down the line, I find it impossible to listen to this album in full. Or, for that matter, get about 9 or 10 tracks into it. 24 songs is just far, far too much, and if I'm being honest, there's only 4 or 5 songs on here that are worth saturated listens. There's no doubting the importance of this record, but De La Soul themselves have bettered this, not to mention any number of acts that followed them.

Another hiphop-classic. This one is pretty much the most famous album out of all the albums made in the native tongues-family. It features the hit "Me, Myself and I" which has been heard by everyone and their mother. This album is however not to be taken seriously in any case, it's basically three rappers and a producer (Prince Paul) having fun and with that making some great music. The overall tone of the album is very lighthearted and up-beat and is just hilarious throughout.
