Before MMM, I was a sad and lonely soul. My life was a complete mess, I've robbed millions and millions of banks, I've destroyed planets and galaxies, I started to leave the toilet seat up...Basically, I was trapped. Trapped in a box of my sadness......Then, one day, a miracle happened: I listened to MMM. All of my inner demons seemed to flow out of my soul, If I had to compare the experience of listening to MMM for the first time, it would be being born again. I felt so...Pure. Ever since, My life has become much, much better. I even have a wife and 19 children! Highly recommended 11/10

Music can be two things for you: a source of entertainment, like a cheap but enjoyable action movie, or a work of art, not necessarily enjoyable, but always stimulating, thought-provoking and admirable - just like movies by Fellini or Antonioni. Or Metal Machine Music - a double album filled with unlistenable noise, which won't bring you simple joy, but will always remind you of how ambitious, imaginative and uncompromising species we are.

First of all, this album gets a symbolic (but secret) "5" for the symbolism and back story. It also gets a secret "5" for what it represents to us listeners, the record company that lost money producing it, and the artist. My secret 5 is equivalent to an online Masters degree that takes only 1 month to get and is unaccredited. My true "tangible" score is that of a 1.5. I gave it the extra half point because it is so unusual that people still try to sit through it.

One of the most important turning points in popular music. From the moment MMM was released, the big companies started to respect more the artists visions, so they can have the liberty to create whatever they want, as long as it sounded "commercial".
One way or another, after 1975, every new artist owns a big compliment to Lou.

Musically, this album is almost completely worthless. Feedback is cool at times, but a double album of nothing but that is stupid. But you've got to give it to Lou that he had the balls to release this.

There's no real purpose to this record at all. Just Lou Reed giving a big middle finger. Whether it is a joke, a grudging fulfilment of a contractual obligation or a bizarre attempt at Noise music. It's 64:11 length will leave you paranoid and confused, like everyone else.

Dry your knickers, fools. This is a perfectly fine, occasionally misstepping, experimental noise proto-drone album. Very ahead of its time. Mostly superseded by plenty followers.

While this does get boring pretty quickly, the sound is not actually as unpleasant as I expected - there's an accidental symphonic vibe to it. But yeah, unless you're looking for background noise, it's not good. I think it's wild that this was released by a reasonably well known artist. Imagine being poor old Johnny record buyer and purchasing this without reading any reviews or a pre-listen - I would have been so bummed that I spent my pocket money on this. Lou could be a cruel bastard.

Mediocre noise album, it's only received the infamy that it has because Lou Reed decided to troll his audience (and his record label as well) with it. There is much better noise albums, I'd recommend searching for them instead.

METAL MACHINE MUSIC is essentially one continuous hour-long exercise in noise and feedback. Listening to this entire album at high volume would be a quick way to induce tinnitus. There isn't all that much variation in the noise until about the last 5 minutes so. It's obviously Lou having a good laugh at our expense, so I wouldn't recommend enduring this unless you're just a masochist or enjoy writing contrarian reviews. Does this album possess any musical value whatsoever? Only if you need something to clear a crowded room quickly.

A big name in the 70s releasing a noise album? - I think that's a win. And it's not bad. Since it's made by a famous musician like Lou Reed people that are not usually into experimentation and noise come here just to check what the artist that they are listening to have produced and they end up being disappointed.
