Bombastic prog jazz fusion, and shit's intense. 5 motherfuckers only, but they do have enough grandiloquence to call themselves an orchestra. From the complex yet headbanging solis brought by the guitar, the violin that complements it, the dynamic and tight drumming, the restrained bass controlling the chaos and the ebullient keyboards, this is a fantastic piece of art that might be a better gateway to jazz fusion than Bitches Brew (yeah BB you're too long for the impatient brats).

Oh baby! Indian music, wanky jazz-fusion and prog-rock combined in a whirlwind of electric noise? Oh yes. The dynamic between the violin and McLaughlin is incredible, and Cobham kills his drumset. So good.

Easily the best jazz-fusion album of all times. This album got me into jazz fusion seriously, and I've been listening to more jazz more often ever since.

One day I was looking about for some new bands to get into and I came across Mahavishnu Orchestra. I had heard good things about them, but was yet to hear them. Later on in the week I made a trip to my local record store and found their first album. I took the risk in buying it, even though not having heard anything by them.
At first I thought two things, number one being "God this is weird" Number two being "They are so good at their instruments it makes me want to disown my own". After a couple of times playing this album i found it very enjoyable, this album just shows that five extraordinary musicians are capable of writing anything.
One thing is for sure "Mahavishnu Orchestra" took music to a new level of intensity, and not forgetting the quaility an instrument can be played.
