He doesn't play particularly fast. He doesn't make his guitar sound like any instrument besides a guitar. He doesn't do anything technically that has never been done before. Hell, he's not even in a metal band! Yet, he's one of the greatest guitarists of all time - Stevie Ray Vaughan. And his ultimate album, "Texas Flood," is a prime showcase of a musician who injects more feeling into every note than most guitarists manage in entire careers.

Cool blues rock. Stevie sure knows how to hit dem notes, killing it with each of his electric solis. He's talented, but it's clear some passages here are the results of improv and genuine feel. His singing is raspy, yet soulful. Not the biggest blues rock fan here (I sometimes find it too *wanky* and yeah I know it's ironic), but this is one cool record.

The gold standard of blues guitar records. Vaughan is among music's most skilled guitarists; his combination of raw talent and genuine feel is awe-inspiring. He's tasteful, too, never devolving into out-of-place wankery or pointless shredwork. Oh, and he's a fearsome vocalist: a raspy yet tuneful, soulful voice. Any music fan's collection is incomplete without this album.

'Texas Flood' is arguably the definitive release by Stevie Ray Vaughan, as it showcases Stevie's excellent guitar playing and contains his most memorable tracks. However, the lack of variety and deviation from traditional blues leaves me no choice but to give it a 3.5. Check out: "Pride & Joy", "Texas Flood"

He was an amazing musician no matter which way you look at it. There's no arguing that.
The inevitable thing however is, no matter how great a musician he is, each and every person's musical taste subtly and qualitatively differ, which is probably the whole reason for the diverse range of scores given to this album.
As for where I stand? When it comes down to skill and emotion, I say 5/5, an absolute perfect score. However, no matter what genre of music, if you're not completely enjoying it, it means nothing. Taking that into account, I myself feel much happier with a 4.3/5.
I can definitely see why so many fans go crazy for this man, but I don't particularly see myself putting this album on perpetual repeat like I can see several other albums that I truly treasure. 4.3/5

hmm, great songs and great playing undoubtedly, but woefully over produced. Really lets this album down. I'd rather just watch Live At The El Mocambo if feel like some SRV. In any case you need to SEE him play not just hear him.

Stevie Ray Vaughan is labeled as a defining essential in the genre of blues. And it is the same with his debut album "Texas Flood". This album opens more opens more Possibilities than Buddy Guy on Steroids and opens an enjoyable and also setting you in a mood, which the (good) blues is known to do to new. This album opened me to a whole range of new blues and helped me respect the genre and for this 5/5.
