Excellent dissoblack release. I hoped for more stuff like "The Choir of the Dead" (which is absolutely phenomenal), but it's still an outstanding album in general.

This album is unique, and for a straight up black metal record released in 2004 with no added elements from other genres, that in itself is laudable. The music has a strong horror feel to it and makes one's skin crawl minutes into the r ecord. However the record lasts long enough for the freshness and excitement of the first few tracks to slightly fade without renewing it with other atmospheres or ideas. A solid 4.1

Anybody would be quick to find themselves trapped in deadsville the moment they decide to associate the holiday season with black metal; sure, the fiery depths of Hell aren't harmful to your health at all, but snowstorms overpower them. I refused to stomach this cliche until The Work Which Transforms God pulled me in with its horrifying atmosphere and booming, yet warped sense of vocals. This is no everyday album, for its essence is truly a special force as far as winter is concerned. Blut Aus Nord didn't so much create an influential record as much as they did craft a frozen tundra that has sealed many nightmares, waiting to unleash these upon various a fan of heavy metal music in general. It's downright beautiful from start to end.

This would be a lot better if there wasn't several seconds of silence between nearly every single track. It flows nowhere near as well as it should because of this flaw.

It was a hard choice, but this is my favorite Blut Aus Nord album, mostly because its like they took their awesome ambient work from albums such as MoRT, and fused it with the Black Metal styles they used in albums such as MV I and II. I guess they didn't really fuse them, technically, since this came a bit before some of the others, but you catch my drift. It kicks ass. That drift.

Blut aus Nord have created a truly frightening masterpiece by taking the basic genre of black metal and warping it into a hideous creation of their own. The Work Which Transforms God is nothing short of spectacular. Filled to the brim with dissonant guitar tones and deep, horrific vocals, it is one of the most unsettling metal releases to date.
