Goddamn, Fates did a real 180 on me here. I was expecting them to either continue their progression into even proggier territory with more extended instrumentals and weird times, but they do the exact opposite. They strip both of those entirely, and drop both the prog and heaviness. It sucks

Commercial rock with more atmosphere than usual. Shitty production, bland instrumentation, boring
as hell and very "fake" but still has great vocals from Ray, a couple of nice songs and is nice to
put on and relax to. Not terrible but a far cry from the top-notch progressive metal Fates Warning
are known for.

A very good progressive metal album with excellent production, instrumentation and vocals. However it gets rather cheesy at points, but still easily a worthy listen if you're into prog metal.

Persnally better than "Perfect Symmetry" with great production and almost all the songs great! "The eleventh hour" and "Point of view" are monster songs...also "Dont follow me", "Life in still water" and especially "The road goes on forever" are among my favorites...

I'm not the most knowledgeable person when it comes to progressive metal, but this record is full of emotions not found in many albums of the same genre.. Ray Alder hugs himself all the time in this record.. Probably he felt in love with himself

With this album Fates Warning finally found their own grial: the perfect communion between their classic influences (Iron Maiden, Rush, Queensrÿche, Marillion, etc.) and their own sound, leaded by the spectacular guitar duo Jim Matheos-Frank Aresti, the clean, beauty and powerful Ray Alder's voice, and the original drum playing by Mark Zonder. Matheos wrote these songs trying to be less complicated than the previous and also excellent Perfect Symmetry. The songs are played in a classic "in crescendo" mode from the first notes to the chorus, the more catchy in all Fates Warning career. The Eleventh Hour, one of the best prog metal songs ever written, it's Parallels hight point, but the rest are all absolutely magnificient. In Paralles Fates Warning shows perfectly how a band can mix their brilliant technical skills with a well structured songs, like Queensrÿche in Operation Mindcrime and Empire.
