The most metal thing about this album is the beginning of Blood Eagle when you hear a guy having a spear thrusted into his gut! I shit you not, you hear the impact, the blood spilling, and the guy groaning. m/

Another excellent record from one of the most consistent bands in the metal scene. Slightly better than "Surtur Rising" and even more melodic, the album manages to reach all fans' expectations. Many great songs here but my favorites are the title track, "As Loke Falls", "Under Siege", "We Shall Destroy" and "Warriors of The North"....

In Deceiver of the Gods, Amon Amarth don't necessarily make a misstep, it's just not as memorable as their other blood soaked outings. This is mainly attributed to the fact that no song truly jumps out at you that you can rank high in the echelon of Amon Amarths Best songs (besides Hel). Still the fact that this, their weakest album in recent memory, is a 4 should be a testament to just how good these brutal vikings are. I will tip my hat and say that band does pay a lot of homage to the great Iron Maiden with some of the guitar melodies and song structures that appear on this album, mainly on As Loke Falls and the 9 minute (I don't use this word lightly) Warriors of the North. Best Songs: As Loke Falls, Hel, Warriors of the North.

Amon Amarth return with a colossal and heavy record that is arguably the golden viking in their discography. Brutal gutural vocals, crushing riffs, overwhelming leads, powerful drums and an amazing performance make "Deceiver Of The Gods" a stellar record.

Pretty solid Amon Amarth album. It's nothing out of the ordinary honestly as its business as usual. However it does sound a bit heavier and more groove oriented this time around. It's a 4 from me but I may increase or decrease the rating as necessary.
