I can't really get into it. It's fun for a spin or two but it lacks the emotional impact
that The Collective had, which is what elevated it from something good to something really
special. Technically this is great but it failed to hit me in the feels.

The Migration proves that yes, yet again Scale The Summit is at the top of its game. Lush atmospheres are emphasized here, as are musical movements-- there aren't a ton of stand-out tracks here, much like The Collective. But where The Migration shines is through a change of perspective for the band, the fact that Scale the Summit is more interactive than ever.

My second favourite instrumental prog metal record of the decade. If The Joy of Motion gave you the feeling of exploring the edge of the universe, this is the sound of exploring green hills (hands down the most fitting album title-cover-music package of recent memory). It's less jazz-oriented (though not totally devoid of it), and less headbanging-material than TJoM, but the production here is lusher (that bass sound) and more melodic as a whole. The "problem" here is that as a whole it's less efficient than TJoM: the highs are absolutely gorgeous (Atlas Novus = best instrumental track of the decade, come @ me) but the less lavish cuts are less good than the least good TJoM tracks. Still the most invigorating and colourful journey you could go on.

Scale the Summit as per usual. Nothing new here. The musicianship is stunning, it's produced well... but we've heard this before. The songwriting is stale at this point. Nothing offensively bad here, but it's getting rather tired.

There are some absolute highlights here, such as Atlas Novus and Willow. Other songs, such as Oracle, are ruined by pointless chugging and less melody. Overall a pretty good album, but nothing amazing.

So I know I'm just repeating everyone else when I call this album lush and adventurous, but honestly I can't think of a better way to describe the journey that is Scale the Summit's Migration. The central focus of the album, guitar melodies, whisk the listener away to a jungle filled with progressive instrumentals and exciting atmospheres. To add to albums over all adventurous theme, it's backed by an amazing rhythm section which echos that of a jazz fusion band. If I had a complaint with this album it would be that songs don't individually stick out and the "wow" factor is not as high as it was on the Collective. Overall though, The Migration continues to see Scale the Summit, uh...scale the summit of the progressive music scene. Best Songs: The Olive Tree, Narrow Salient, The Dark Horse.

First of all, Scale the Summit definitely has a very unique sound for being an instrumental metal band. At first when I was listening to this album, I was having a hard time really getting into the music because it is different but I started to become more use to the sound as the album went on. People definitely have to get use to the sound of this band to really like them, which is a little hard to do in my opinion.
