None of the non-mainstream genres I listened to this past decade was more prolific and exciting than black metal. And of all the releases that marked the genre, Teethed Glory and Injury is the most impressive. If Paracletus clearly is the most dissonant and technical, if Sunbather is the gamechanger, if Ecailles is the most beautiful or Murmuure the most unreal, Altar of Plagues simply released the best black metal record the decade, because it takes every good aspect of the other albums without ever losing its own identity. It's as nasty as DsO, as crucial as DFHVN, as beautiful as Alcest, and as industrial and drony as Murmuure. It takes everything remotely linked to black metal: dissonance, manic shrieks, ambient, drone, chants, might, and the fusion of utter beauty and absolute ugliness, to create a maelstrom of the darkest and deepest emotions. Above all else, it's the grandest black metal work released this decade, standing heads and shoulders above the putrefied mass.

I may be pulling the trigger here a touch early, but this is your AOTY. It swirls, transcends, grabs, pulls, grows and takes a hold on the darkest parts of your emotions. It's a change from previous releases in more than a couple of ways. Track length suits a better all rounded sense and they have dropped the black metal intensity opting for a smoother post/experimental sound.

A lot less black metal, a lot more atmosphere and experimentation. Essentially, this is what real "post-black metal" should sound like. This sounds virtually rnothing like White Tomb and I'm strangely OK with that.

superb. artsy. dark. tripop BM. Amazing use of textures, this time adding an Industrial vibe to the piece and remaining organic af. Their most sophisticated sound to date, full of identity and uniqueness. In love with it. PUSH RELEAAAAAASE. PUSH RELEAAAAAASE. PUSH RELEAAAAAASE!

Gripping; blood-curdling. Simply put: this album will leave You sweating. Tracks 2-6 are absolutely flooring. Slight loss of momentum towards the record's end, but not enough to stop this from standing firmly amongst the genre's absolute finest. - 4.9/5

It is amazing. Sometime, we'll look back and this record will define Black Metal's finest creations. I'm not even so much of a metal head myself, but this is my favourite record of all time. This is just a vision so well matched!rI won't overhype, just listen to it at face value. When it doesn't click, try it again. If not, I'm sorry to have bothered you.

This album is definitely experimental and atmospheric to the core, which makes it a very unique album that is fairly enjoyable. The negative of the album is that it is too heavy at times, leaving no room for needed melody, and it begins to take a toll on the listener's ear.

This may have taken a few listens to sink in (especially after rinsing my copies of White Tomb and Mammal), but this album is incredible. It completely dissociates the band away from the trends and clich?s of the post-black metal genre, and revamps it with fresh experimentation. In an interview, they listed Pig Destroyer and even techno music as an influence on the latest album - I'm not exactly sure what they've done, but I've never heard anything like this before. The album is solid from start to finish, and without a doubt my AOTY so far.
