There really is no death metal quite like new Behemoth. After traveling to many exotic places around the world and putting part of themselves into each piece of music they wrote, the band managed to produce powerful yet meaningful extreme metal with Demigod. Inferno's drums and Nergel's voice come together to hit listeners like a Polish death metal sledgehammer. The riffs and solos, while not overly technical, show a strong proficiency towards piecing together thousands of riffs with unusual techniques to achieve an overall sound. The eastern influence in the music only helps Behemoth differentiate themselves even more from other death metal. Songs like Sculpting the Throne ov Seth are loaded with vengeful vocals and technical, mind-boggling riffs while Slaves Shall Serve and Demigod are full-blown crushing metal tracks scientifically designed to allow Behemoth to display their awesome synchronized hair whipping skills.

Some have compared them to Nile. There are definitely moments where you go, I think I’ve heard that before. Behemoth is a band with so much potential but in their valiant efforts to be very “death metal,” they neglect to create memorable songs. But to be fair, the blame squarely rests on mainman, Nergal. His vocal delivery is both pompous and funnily enough, not that brutal. The clarity of the production makes it sound as though there are three Nergals. Which suffice it to say, is just plain annoying. Just imagine this, a Nergal to your left, a Nergal to your right and a Nergal right in front of you. Not nice at all. And the solos? Let’s just say that the band needs someone who can unleash them with more force because they’re forgettable. Towards Babylon, Xul and Slaves Shall Serve are brutal songs that will pummel your head in and then you’re hankering for some Nile. The most disappointing song has to be The Reign Ov Shemsu-Hor. It starts off with tribal beats while the main riff is quite good. At slightly over 8 minutes you’d think that this is going to epic. It doesn’t. Not even near. It’s overwrought, bloated and mismatched. Not even the liberal usage of the kvlt word Ov can help this album. What a shame.

Behemoth solidify themselves as brutal DM royalty. An album that has absolutely no listeners gives you no time to catch your breath except a few acoustic intros. Inferno actually wases on the blastbeats at times to add to the heaviness, showing more varuety in that field than previous Behemoth. Still, the album is very one-dimensional.

Essentially a solid, 40-minute slab of blistering rage. The songs are all quite similar, but they're sufficiently short and focused to drive the album all the way through, and it really helps to have a longer, epic song to close it up in a grand fashion. Very strong riffing, lightspeed drumming, interesting lead work here and there, clear production; it's just straightforward, quality death metal.

It doesn't really get any heavier than Demigod. From start to finish you're greeted my a barrage of blast beats, layered growls, and shred solos. Nergal, the main songwriter for Behemoth really stepped up his game on this album. In comparison to past Behemoth releases, this album shines. The riffs are aggressive, never recycled, and accent the vocals nicely. The bass can actually be heard, and it is great as well. Orion does a great job keeping up with Nergal and Seth, and it's even more impressive that he plays with his fingers. Inferno's drumming is both tight and precise, and his footwork is amongst the best in the genre. I'd strongly reccommend this album to anyone looking for brutal death metal, technical death metal, or just good metal in general. Be prepared though, this album isn't for the faint of heart.

Undeniably one of my favourite releases to date. Behemoth has absolutely blown me out of the water with this album. I've listened to maybe their last 5 discs and this is by far my favourite album lately. I'm also a sucker for good productions, but musically and progression-wise I just can't seem to say I don't favour this album. Behemoth has thoroughly redefined who they are as a group and I respect them for that. Great album, great songs, great feel. That's all I got, really. There is no reason you shouldn't listen to this album if you are a fan of Death Metal. m/

Maybe I just do not get it. But for me this album was beyond dissapointing. With several posative reviews and some raving soundoffs i decided, to check it out a while back. Behemoth for me have stood out as kind of bland on this album, not showing enought variation in the guitar riffs and solos was a major setback. In addition the vocals annoyed me to no end, proving to not set themselves appart from other death metal singers. And what is all this talk of them being so technical on this album? Sure there is soloing but the solos are really nothing special i found them to be kind of repeatative and in general tended to bore me. The drumming was pretty good on this album but that is one of the few redeeming qualities. So maybe i will look back and see i was wrong but this album has been nothing but a huge dissapointment.

Despite my predisposition to be opposed to all things nu-death, Behemoth in particular stands out as the cream of the crop. They can whip up some furious metal sandstorms that grind out your eyeballs and choke you to death with the best of them. The riffs have a good amount of variety, and the drumming is indeed good. Except for when they all trip over themselves and the song derails. I don't want to like it, partially because it doesn't have the same appeal or intensity as early death metal, but partially because I'm an obscurity freak and only will like an album if no one else knows about it. Demigod is good and pretty accessible for death metal, but lacks the energetic and raw feel that I fell in love with the genre for. It probably deserves a 3.5. But it's not going to get it.

Behemoth, along with Nile, Bloodbath, and Hate Eternal, are my all time favorite brutal death metal bands. Having
started as a mediocre black metal band, Behemoth burst into the death metal scene, leaving a permanent mark on
the genre. Demigod is a perfect example of true brutal brutal brutal death. Every song is a nonstop onslaught
of vicious riffs with only some melodic breakdowns, and brutal, demonic roars from guitarist/ vocalist Nergal. The
only downsides to the album are the vocals in the fact that it is nearly impossible to understand anything Nergal
says even to the growl trained ear. Also, the enhanced CD music video for Conquer All came to me as a
disappointment because it is bluntly obvious that Nergal is lip sinking (which I hate when it’s done poorly). Aside
from those minor issues, Behemoth have an amazing album that is essential to any death metal collection.
