This is one of those records where it feels like the artist did whatever they felt like with no one to tell them no, in the best way possible. The songwriting is like nothing I have ever heard before, which makes it incredibly exciting. I don't think I have ever been so constantly surprised by what was thrown at me in terms of structure and dynamics as I was listening to this for the first time. Some tracks, especially towards the end, are played too straight for my taste, following a straightforward indie folk sound. But these lukewarm tracks are more than made up for by the brilliance of the best tracks. Favorite tracks: Bird Balloons, Hair to the Ferris Wheel, Mezzanine.
