Beggars' second album with Apollo behind the vocals is an absolute stunner. It is less heavier and more inclined into retro/vintage rock paths. Earth Blues contains some of Amott's most comprehensive guitar performances ("Sweet Magic Pain", "Road to Madness") while Wiberg's interchanges between piano and organ are simply compelling ("One Man's Curse", "Kingmaker"). The sound is heavily influenced by 70s classic bands such as Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep and someone could argue that this is the style that SB should adopt in future recordings. Recommendations: "Wise As a Serpent", "Turn The Tide", "Hello Sorrow", "Too Old To Die Young", "Dead End Town"

I've got their entire catalog and feel this is their best yet. The songs are accessible and inspired, the throaty organ sounds make it feel like 1973 again, and the guitar tone is gorgeous. I was not enamored of Apollo as the new singer on "Return to Zero"; the album was rather tame by their standards. But he's "on fire" here and this might be my favorite vocal performance on any SB album, and that's saying a lot.

wow, a lot bette rthan i expected, maybe best post-spice album. gritty and groovy again, not clean 80s rock like the last ones.rbtw the solo in hello sorrow seems to be directly "borrowed" from somewehere in time-Maiden...

In view of the flourishing vintage/heavy rock revival circuit, Earth Blues may as well be the album that will introduce Spiritual Beggars (est. 1992!) as one of its inherent forefathers.
