Well done sludge/post/prog metal, but I think the decision to forego most of the heavy vocals brings a tad of monotony. The clean instrumental parts are pretty rad though, and the bass slapz.

In their attempt to differentiate themselves from Valley of Smoke, Intronaut invest more on more subdued, "progressive rock" song structures and, with all analogies accounted for, end up sounding as pretentious as their late '70s counterparts. Also, the clean vocals continue to be as passable as those in the preceding album. A low flight for Intronaut, at least from where I'm standing.

While a cool technical post-metal effort, Habitual Levitations lacks the explosiveness found on Valley of Smoke.

Feeling like arguably the band's most focused work, elements of Intronaut's back catelogue can be found throughout Habitual Levitations. Though some fans are undoubted put off by a seemingly new embracing of cleaner vocals, it could also be seen as a refreshing take on an already honed sound.
