This is the ultimate single for a Metallica fan. The title song, a title song edit, 6 live songs, and a t-shirt. I believe that despite the average overall quality of St. Anger, the song Some Kind of Monster can go down as one of Metallica's best. The edit for the song is a nice addition and makes the song shorter than the original. The band seemed out of tune for the live songs (especially Ride the Lightning). In fact, I felt that only Hit the Lights had a shred of quality sound. I really loved that they included a t-shirt in the single.
Because the live songs bring down the quality of the album so much, I'd have to rate this one average. James can't sing his first 4 albums anymore, and when he trys, it's just a letdown. I think I would've preferred the single as a five track CD with Some Kind of Monster, St. Anger (live), Some Kind of Monster (live), The Unnamed Feeling (live), and Some Kind of Monster (edit) or something along those lines.

Metallica's Strange EP with one of the stranger songs off St. Anger Album. This is not to say that the song is bad; in fact, the song is quite good. While it certainly is long and boring at times, it certainly has its moments and it succeds in sounding angry. Here's the song-by-song review:
1. Some Kind of Monster: Long, repetive and uninteresting; that's what most people say about this song. And for the most part, they are right. (Even the drums, which might have made the song more interesting, are repetive and overly simple. It sounds as if Lars wrote the drum part right in the recording session.) That's what usually happens when you take a theme and play it over and over again, and then some more. Still, there are some good points about this song: I absolutely love the intro of this song (very catchy) , and how it develops until James's vocals come in. Unfortunally, that is the only interesting part in this song, mostly because the rest of the song is repeating. Hints at Metallica's glory days here and there, but the songs itself only gets about 3/5. (If you ever manage to get to the end of the song, at the 8:24 mark, you are suddenly hit with very odd sounding ending-for the lack of a better word-after all that repeating. I found this somewhat funny.) 3/5
2-7. Live tracks are good, especially since these are all rarely played live songs. I personally enjoyed these tracks, but I won't post a review of them in here. These tracks are the only reason I got this EP. 4/5
8. As if 8:25 onslaught of repeating weren't enough, Here's Some Kind of Monster reduced to half. The problem is, though, that they got rid of all the interesting parts and left only the repetive parts. (Hell, they even got rid of that wierd ending that I liked in the original) Except for that, not much difference here, as the only difference seems to be the sound of the snare drum and the song length. 2.5/5
Overall, this isn't too bad. However, if you have St. Anger, then there's no need to get this album unless you're buying it for the live tracks. 3.5 / 5
