Listening to Das Tor, I'm taken back to memories of the "Banshee Boardwalk" course from Mario Kart 64; Bowser's go-kart speeding through the creaky wooden floorboards like pummeling repetitive blast beats, surrounded by that eerie ghost-filled atmosphere composed around a looped race track that's simultaneously intimidating, entrancing, and weirdly nostalgic. All of this buzzing out of the little worn out 10-inch TV sitting where the fireplace used to be in the basement.

First impressions: this is kind of like a bridge between Paysage d'HIver's previous black metal demos and the crunchier, spacier work of Wintherr's other project, Darkspace. Offenbarung is one of the best songs of the man's career, and represents the first time I've ever had my foot tapping during a Paysage song. Ewig leuchten die Sterne is a slower, more atmospheric number, while Macht des Schicksals really, really sounds like Darkspace (good thing) and Schlüssel is closer to Paysage's earlier work, although it spend its second half on wind sounds. Overall, this is a god damned excellent demo/album/whatever and is, in my book, second only to Winterkaelte and the s/t. Time may see it raise above those. BY THE WAY I NOW HAVE RED LETTERS NEXT TO MY USERNAME AS SUCH I AM NOW A MAN OF AUTHORITY HERE ON SPUTNIK LISTEN TO MY OPINION YOU GOD DAMNED FOOLS no i am only slightly drunk like a 5.5/10 or some shit idk bro fukc i need to write a new review soon god damn it

A Triumphant return for PDH. Any veteran of his back-catalog wont be in for many surprises and pretty much know what to expect, but that being said, Das Tor may be one of the most polished and defined moments in Wintherr's career. In my eyes this release is second only to Winterkalte. this album (?) is yet another harrowing trip into the abyss and a highly recommended listen for any fan of BM in general. rP.S. Bring mittens.

Another bm fave from Pd'H. Sounds like the evil continuation of Winterkalte with more cinematic voice textures and also soft but more lo-fi prod. Idk what those two albums in the middle were all about. The middle of the record (track 2 and the first half of track 3) is stellar and top tier Pd'H material. Track 1 and 4 are jams too. Closer perfectly sums up Pd'H's discog with bm decaying into synthy ambient then wind recordings (otherwise dropped from the album). It does have low points, especially the second half of track 3, but album is a definite re-listen and a solid 4.15

A perfect mood setter for days dry and windy. The mood is bleak but somehow the setting provides a stark beauty in a barren wasteland. It's times like this when you can fully understand why the bands of this genre spend so much time focusing on what others usually miss.
