There are some great ideas at work here, but this album is both far too long and far too samey - always a bad combination - to warrant anything above a 3 in my book.

In my opinion an excellent record. Maybe more like a 3.75 though. Room for improvement for certain but an outstanding start for the band. I particularly enjoyed the heaviness that they bring in a number of tracks which is a breath of fresh air when you have bands like Scale the Summit, who are great, but seem to have sacrificed a ton of heaviness for their gorgeous melodies.

I was tempted to give it a 3 due to its repetitive patterns, but then I thought about the great musicianship, some outstanding tracks (New Breed, Stars and the Ocean suite) and the fact that this is a debut. 3.5 for these good fellows.

Great ideas, but monotone execution. The album is a passable listen, but respectable musicianship, but gets dull at times. Bottom line: there's lots of room for improvement.

THE best album I've heard in a long time. Pomegranate Tiger is way better than Scale the Summit in my opinion. While StS might feel like lacking something, Pomegranate Tiger doesn't.

Fantastic technicality, these guys can really play the bejesus out of their respective instruments, but it all seems rather directionless, and lacks emotion. There's a whole lot of cool stuff going on, and some really slick change ups, but it all feels like it's going nowhere fast. Rating might go up a bit with more listens.
