Album should be called "The Talking Like A Fucked Up Teenage Girl Album." Literally more than half this album is talking. It sucks. Hard. And I like a few songs by her too.

This is better than people lead me to believe, then again, I like unsettling atmosphere and have a high tolerance for both what people refer to as pretentious, and simultaneously, what people call ?generic?. It can all be fun. And ?Apex Predator? is just solidly an awesome song.

Hydra is incredibly self-indulgent and hardly deserves to be called an album, if at all. The concept behind it is interesting, though the overall execution boils down to Otep Shamaya's spoken word verses which just do not work for a music release. Speaking of that m-word, whatever musicianship this 'record' has is far too hollow and one-dimensional to keep up with the frontwoman's pretentious gibberish. Otep may as well be one of the most disliked groups around these parts, and I can't say it's difficult to see why that would be.

I thought that the low of music was already reached. But this album goes far beyond the normal low of bad music. I always called Otep the worst band I've ever heard, though I could have never thought they could have angered me this much. I'm not going to delay any of my feeling on this album- this is the WORST fucking album I have ever heard in my life. The whole album is filled with horrible screaming vocals, piss-poor production, and some of the most FUCKING TERRIBLE lyrics I have ever heard. It made me realize how much of a c-nt the lead singer is, because obviously her intent was to write as many oddly terrible "poems" as possible, scream like a toddler, have untalented musicians back her up, and release it. I'm very sorry, but if you like this band and this album, you are a mentally disabled idiot. This album needs to get taken out of stores and sent into space and exploded. Not even Florida-Georgia Line or Katy Perry could make as bad of an album even if they tried.

This album clawed its way into a 3 for its lyrical concept and some of audio concepts (such as the recurring blaring horn in the first track). This could have made for a better, possibly terrifying album if the hydra metaphor wasn't so under utilized and the metal bits weren't so straight forward. If only the execution was up to par.
