In all honesty, this is probably Sonny at his absolute worst and the reason isn't simply because of how horribly banal the music is. I've talked before about how the day will eventually come when Skrillex will undoubtedly shoot himself in the foot by experimenting and, in the process, completely alienate his entire core fanbase. And with brostep already on a downwards momentum, it's not surprising to see Moore trying to branch out, what is surprising is the route he's taken, and just who he's attempting to ripoff this time around.
Points for trying (well actually no, not really at all), but you've really gotta laugh at how desperate Moore has really become if this is what he intends to do with his time now. The minimal percussion, the sea of bass rising up underneath, the downtuned and pitch-shifted vocals - oh, and of course the "lonely street at midnight" artwork.... I guess the grammy awards and pop star hookups weren't enough, Skrillex must want some real fans now. And from the looks of things, he's willing to do anything to get them

This sucks, but at least it's not as offensively horrible as Make It Bun Dem After Hours.
Still sucks though.

Skrillex experimenting with moderate success. The influences on 'Leaving' are obvious and rwhile not living up to them it's still definitely one of if not the best track he's done. r'The Reason' is decent for his standards but not really that interesting and 'Scary Bolly rDub' is pretty much the worst track I've heard all year (ha!) and not much more than a rfiller.

While the album art may suggest a total 180 degree turn from his past style of music, there is truly only one track on this three track EP that may have you scratching your head, wondering if this really is Skrillex. It's slow, quiet, dark, and minimal, which is probably how Sonny Moore himself would describe the song. However, that one track "Leaving" is nothing more than a carbon copy of work done by some of the more respected, underground dubstep artists out there. True, it actually is slow, quiet, dark, and minimal by Skrillex's standards, but comparing it to a track done by an artist who specializes in the style, it is obvious that Skrillex's is less genuine and clearly overproduced.
The track "Scary Bolly Dub" is pretty much a waste - a medley of his famous past material while the final track "The Reason" stands in between Skrillex's new found "IMUSTBEDARKANDYSTERIOUS" attitude and his "DANCEOHMYGOD" habits.

Hmmm, most of the 1s and 1.5s are only because both Hipsters and the electronica elite think it's trendy to hate on poor Sonny. Having said that, while not terrible, this is definitely bland. Definitely not a wise reputation move to release this. One for the diehards only, probably.

Lol Skrillex actually attempted a Burial rip-off. It's like everyone's most tragic Skrillex joke has come to life.r"Biggest piece of bandwagon jumping I've ever seen. right before I am completely convinced that "Leaving" is blatant plagiarism, the whole mood kind of tilts up. so I have to give him credit for being just a little bit creative. first two tracks are completely standard pre-Recess Skrillex. if you like that, you'll like this.
