I cant believe it, if you have ever felt a chill go down your spine in pure enjoyment of a band you know what i mean by saying that, to put it blatantly this is my favorite band for metal(nu metal), i ....dont know how to say how much i love this band.

XIII was the first album I have heard from this eight-piece, Ohio-based band. Mushroomhead's music style and on-stage appearance is similar to that of Slipknot. In fact this was the first band that wore masks, long before Slipknot popularized the idea some years later. Personally, the blend of thrash/nu/industrial/progressive metal in combination to the ferociously aggressive vocals which create an altogether a chaotic output, is not my cup of tea.

Everything sounds the same to me on this album. There's an 8-minute track that barely goes through any motions. The clean vocals sound like a caricature of a local vocalist. At this point, even the way the vocals are written come off as barely hitting the mark. You could change the lyrics and flow in most of these songs and still have essentially the same quality. Just isn't doing it for me. The only track I like is the one featuring Jens from Meshuggah because it sounds like they're trying to be a different band.

Around the time Mushroomhead and the Universal record label came to see an understanding, said band started to get their big break; they had a major label debut in the compilation release XX, which tends to be perceived as the group's first album by those who haven't heard of MRH's independent offerings. This eventually culminated in these filthy hands unleashing a fourth studio recording: the popular XIII. Mushroomhead kept their traditional style of alternative metal with that swanky industrial flavor close all while expanding upon it, with elements of nu metal being quite obvious - and you can make the argument that they sounded more like a drugged Static-X than they did a shameless Faith No More clone. XIII is musically diverse, but hardly an incoherent chimera, I'd say. While it certainly doesn't hold a candle to Superbuick, this 2003 effort is still a prized possession. Recommended tracks: "Mother Machine Gun," "One More Day," "Thirteen," "Sun Doesn't Rise," and "Destroy the World Around Me".

There are several strong tracks on the album, but the overall vibe is a bit lacking and I find my self skipping back and forth on this album.

This cd could've been better but it still has a lot of strong points,like kill tommorow,sun doesn't rise,our own way,and becoming cold (216).this was not as good as xx,but is still a good cd overall,it has its weak points but almost every cd has a weak point or two.
