Holy Fire sees a more refined Foals, but it sometimes serves to the group's detriment. Gone are the sweeping movements of sound found in the form of "Black Gold" and "Afterglow," replaced by either a) tight singles, or b) tepid exercises in "experimentation." Yannis himself stated this album was an attempt to diversify Foals' sound as much as possible, and so it's alarming to see the opposite occurring.rBut that's my overcritical self, and this is a 3.5 because this album's first half is fucking AWESOME.

A bit less brainy, but way more heartfelt, a little bit closer to the mainstream and the arena maybe, but not getting stale at all. At the first two spins my thoughts were pretty mixed, but ater repeated listen, the songs started to click. Very strong effort. I don't see it becoming an all time favorit like TLF yet but who knows, only time will tell. It kinda lacks an epic masterpiece like Spanish sahara, although Late night is going for the same feel and is one of the best songs as well.rRecs: Inhaler, late night, everytime, Moon, Out of the WoodsrWeakest song: Bad habit.

Holy Fire is the logical continuity of Total Life Forever. If you like the previous record
no doubt you will like this. The guitar work is incredible as expected, Yannis' voice still
has its flaws in my opinion but overall the band still manages to divert the black hole of
creativity in which they could have been drawn into after TLF. So basically its Indie/Pop at
its finest, don't worry you'll find enough catchy tunes and uplifting melodies to make you
wanna come back for more.
