Hey fags: Goo is an excellent album. They couldn't do a Daydream Nation Part 2; that would be very un-Sonic Youth for them to do that. Goo is a band broadening its horizons and central audience. Definitely the starting album for every aspiring Sonic Youth fan nowadays. Songs like "Dirty Boots" are as catchy as Michael Jackson, and still noisy enough to piss off parents/grandparents/teachers/etc.

Maybe I'm nuts, but for me this is Sonic Youth's best album. It's certainly their best balance of tunes and noise. "Dirty Boots" stands right alongside "100%" and "Teen Age Riot" as a perfect SY album opener, and the rest of the first half of the album is basically perfect. "Tunic (Song For Karen)" might be Kim Gordon's best song, "Mote" is a thrilling explosion of noise, "Kool Thing" is sexy as hell, and "My Friend Goo" is playful, catchy, and funny. The second half doesn't quite keep up the 5-star standard, but it's still excellent. I'd recommend that any SY collection should start here.

Will Toledo tried to be cool and honestly it is mixed results for a such a classic album, it is not unpopular to say but Daydream Nation stands head and shoulders above this, but I am still glad they took the musical left turn they did

Taking off from indie, landing in major. Although this still is unmistakably Sonic Youth, the noise rock they were famous for slowly lets alt rock some space in the spotlight. Mind you, it's no Weezer, dissonance still being a core element of Sonic Youth's soundscape. Although the whole band is on fire here, Goo's real star is the ever-cool Kim Gordon. Her prominence as a songwriter and lead singer shines throughout the record, the best and most infamous songs here being hers. That, plus the fact the album was fucking defying the notion of accessibility of a major label release, helped establish Goo as a pillar recording within the alt rock scene, paving the way for The Year that Punk Broke. It's still less good than Sister and Daydream Nation though.

While it doesn't rival Daydream Nation, Goo is still quite good. They tone down the noise and experimentation a bit, instead letting their songwriting skills shine. Some of their all time best work is on here as well, such as "Dirty Boots", "Kool Thing", and "Mote". Plus their humorous side comes forward a bit more than it had before, discounting their EPs. This would perhaps be the best starting place for Sonic Youth, and it's one of their finest albums. A near perfect balance of their poppy side and their noisy tendencies. 4.1/5

crazy guitar licks and feedback is the name of the game and i love it. lee puts it down well in this album. most don't hear his guitar b/c it fades in with the rest of the music so well. the bends that him and thurston play sound great especially during solos. truely amazing songwriting as well. the drumming fills are so great that they tend to pull me away from listening to the real music. kim has always played miminal bass lines but with those two great guitarists i don't think anyone minds..."disappearer" and "mary-christ" are def stand-out tracks.

This was the album that got me into the sonic youth. The first four songs are just mind blowing and tracks nine and eleven are pretty cool, but unfortunately I can't say the same about the other five songs.
If I had to pick a favorite song off the album it would probably be mary-christ that crazy guitar part is just so awesome.
If I had to pick my least favorite it probabaly be scooter and jinx. Simply because the entire song is nothing but noise.
