When you wait four years between album releases, your audience is going to expect something worth the wait. They're also going to be quick to announce your inestimable failure in producing some remarkable. Predictable then, that Timberlake embarrassingly overexerts himself in attempt to avoid disappointment. His artless Lothario affectation threatens to overtake his abilities and the enjoyable music he has put to record. Fortunately when he does let the music do the talking rather than his juvenile gimmick, it is clear Timberlake has come up with something quite special. Even when aping from every musical legend of the past quarter-century, Timberlake has a way of making their style his own. "LoveStoned", "What Goes Around" and "My Love" are all remarkable pop songs, and a good half-dozen others are more than decent ("FutureSex/LoveSounds", "Losing My Way", "Chop Me Up" and so on). Ignore the thematic blunders, now everybody dance.

It had to happen, didn't it? With FutureSex/LoveSounds, JT's reached a stage in his career few others have reached in recent year; neither of his solo albums have come close to realising his massive potential, yet he's getting love spanning the length of the culture divide nonetheless. The highly publicised Rick Rubin collaboration turned out to be a damp squib, the Jackson-esque '(Another Song) All Over Again' limping across the finishing line, but the majority, produced by Timbaland and prot? Danjahandz, is a triumph.
'SexyBack' is charming, despite being the sonic equivalent of being beaten in the face with a mallet, while follow-up singles 'My Love' and 'What Goes Around' demonstrate his keen fusion of Prince's natural falsetto with Jacko's ear for a honeysuckle melody. FutureSex/LoveSounds is either 100% derivative or just 99%, but he's ripping off his heroes better than anyone else right now, and that's all that really matters.

Listened to this again. Bumped this to a 4.5, because despite a few bumps and some weak lyrics in places, this serves as a phenomenal precursor to the opus that is part one of 20/20.

FutureSex/LoveSounds is one of my favorite pop albums of all time. Justin has a great voice and the lyrics are fun and confident, but what really makes his albums masterful are Timbaland's exceptional production. The beats all feel both firmly placed in the mid 00's and also somehow way ahead of their time. This album is a close to perfect pop record in my opinion.

I know I don't like Timberlake, but he really isn't terrible, either. He just has a different way of making music, and it still works. My personal opinion can be further justified if you don't believe me.

I'll start off by saying this record somewhat pleasantly surprised, and I'd give it something more of a 2.8 or 2.9/5 if such ratings were possible here. I'd avoiding this one for a while, despite having slowly developed some respect for JT as an artist. Finally checking it out, there are definitely some entertaining moments here. I can't say I walked away with a lot of songs I'm going to be listening to endlessly for months to come, but I do have some hope that this guy's going to put out an album I can completely dig one day.

A pop juggernaut. A dancefloor anthem. A Prince tribute album. A sex-obsessed concept album. Thriller for the 21st century. A hell of a good time. The crown jewel atop the head of the new king of pop. FutureSex/LoveSounds was all of these things upon its release. And still is.

Great album, Justin Timberlake deserves to be crowned the new king of pop for this brilliant piece of art, combining electronica,techno and classic pop to new heights. Fun to listen to and well written music make this a must have for any fan of pop.
It's definetly mad groovy and just a great album

Sometimes brilliant, sometimes gag-inducing- this JT/Timbaland joint venture (ah, and the Neptunes) has songs that will blow you away ("My Love", "What Goes Around...", the latter being one of my favorite pop songs of all time). At first listen I was ready to deem this as the re-birth of pop, but after repeated listens certain songs become loathsome and many are obvious filler. A solid effort nonetheless which shows JT in his full-on king of pop garb; enjoyable, yes, but things quickly go stale.
