Not that I'm to say this is underrated...I get the complaints, but I happen to really dig this one. "I" is a very acoustic sludge piece Thou(like) at times. "II" pulls you back on the so known riff fest and progressions from bands like Cobalt f.e. III offers a doom vibe, banging and punishing towards the end. It really sets how versatile the band can reach in its own ID.

After a truly phenomenal and chillingly venomous debut full-length album that touched many styles of metal in its onslaught in Hatred For Mankind, the anonymous five-piece of Dragged Into Sunlight turned towards a more subtle and less vicious sound. It's interesting, though Widowmaker is seen as the oddball in their discography, it has much more in common with their debut EP with Kas Mana Terminal Aggressor than Hatred For Mankind ever did. What we have is a slow-burning, tense, death-metal-influenced take on post-metal, with some great moments interspersed. That said, the almost ambient "Part I" is almost tiring, being as drawn out as it is. It, like the other two tracks here, is inconsistent in that it has some great moments on it that are sandwiched in between otherwise merely decent and sometimes even boring moments. Some great riffs pop up in "Part 2" and "Part 3" and the vocals and drumming are still excellent, but it's nowhere near their illustrious debut in terms of quality. That said, there are great things to be heard here, and it's overall a pretty good listen, and it's always nice to see bands trying to expand their sound, especially when they know their previous sound was one they probably couldn't recreate.

Gone is the band you knew from Hatred For Mankind, the "in your face brutality" has been replaced for a more tame sound. Does this however mean the total change of sound is bad? In it self it is not, this is a fine record, a very fine record. But at the other hand I wouldn't be surprised for those to who loved Hatred to absolutely despise this. This release has to be seen on its own to shine, the band you knew has gone in a different direction but that doesn't mean the direction is bad.

I believe the boys from DIS said this was not to be considered a follow up to a hatred for mankind, and is some sort of concept album.

Pretty much if you loved their debut, you will most likely be scratching you head with this one and saying, "Am I still listening to Dragged in Sunlight?" Gone are the awesome sludgy death metal attacks, gone are the reckless black metal atmospherics, gone are the awesome doomy sections that pulled everything down into pure blackness. What's been replaced is a track of post-metal boredom (14 minutes of it), a track of shit stained groove metal, and one last song of post metal groove topped off with some forced ambience. Fuck this band!
