The Fall of Ideals is the better overall record, but this album's lack of clean singing and less commercial approach makes it have more varied songwriting in my opinion. The drummer on this record pales in comparison to the one on The Fall of Ideals, as well.

Just metal enough, and mercifully devoid of much of the crippling flaws of its genre. If only this album represented the launching point and not the apex of the band's career, it might be something we talk about with fondness.

@ Darlingfemmefatal: As a metal drummer, I have to tell you that Michael Bartlett can't hold Shannon Lucas or Jason Costa's jockstrap with a ten foot pole when it comes to drumming. Losing Bartlett was the best thing that could've happened to All That Remains. He's OK, but did little more than hold the beat of the song. The Fall of Ideals and everything beyond wouldn't have happened with Bartlett. This album is OK. Has a few decent songs, but definitely their worst.

Sadly, I really believe this is exactly where the band peaked. With wonderful instrumentals and a strong lead guitarist, I think this band was heading towards good potential, but after losing their awesome drummer and caving into the demands of scene kids asking for more watered down metal, this band lost it's edge.

Very good! Not quite as good as The Fall of Ideals, but I still think "And Death In My Arms" is probably the best song they've written so far (as of Oct. 08) =D

This album was an incredible release. All That Remains establishes their sound with this album. Great riffs, Awesome vocals, and solid druming all make this album intense and punishing.

Lyrically masterful, and the songwriting is worlds better than thier debut. However, the album as a whole gets a little monotonous after a while. This album still showed that some maturing needed to be done, though the talent and potential is evident in this band with this release.
