There is heavy, and then there is Deicide, whom far surpass that. Deicide is one of those bands that never really evolved beyond what their debut album had to offer, but why mess with perfection? Deicide's debut, 1990's Deicide, is undoubtedly one the heaviest album's ever released. Everything about the album will kick your teeth in. The vocals, which are split between black metal like shrieks and death metal like gutterals are phenomenal. Often times the two are used at once, creating a harmonized scream effect. Although the lyrics on the album cannot be understood for a large majority of the album, they are not really mean to be understood, so much as his voice is supposed to be another abrasive percussive tool. The guitars on the album are also very well done. Throughout the album they are aggressive and the riffing is fast and furious. The guitar solos are so-so, and are sometimes outof key with the rest of the song, but they take up such a minute part of the album it's not really a big deal. The bass cannot be heard for most of the album, and as a result there is really not much to say about it...it would be impressive if it could be heard, I guess. The drumming on the album is the key highlight for your truly. It is fast paced and technical throughout. Deicide's debut album has stood the test of time, and will continue to put extreme metal albums to shame for some time to come.

Very high 3.5. First track is the best, which might make the rest seem more disappointing than it actually is. However, I find this to be a quite typical OSDM release, so hard to give it a 4.

There?s satanism and backward messages. There?s satanic panic and then there?s Deicide. I still don?t feel good listening to this even if I?d be surrounded by Bible wall.

Deicide is one of the most prominent and recognized names in Death Metal. With Satanic themes (always), and a lot of noise, the band has a respectable discography, even with repeated failures. On their debut album, almost everything works out. What really bothers is what has always been a barrier in the quality of the band: Vocals and exacerbated satanism. Even so, the 1990 album is a classic of its genre.

Old school death metal of a high order. Booming production, ferocious vocals, lots of double kick drum; when you think of death metal, this is probably close to what you imagine. There isn't much variation between the songs, but at just over a half hour, Deicide doesn't overstay its welcome.

Some great tracks on it, like lunatic of gods creation, the title-track or day of darkness. I would have voted this much higher if it wasn't for benton's mostly mediocre vocals/lyrics layered with way too much annoying effects (dead by dawn, anyone?).

Some very good tracks on this album, but it gets old REAL fast. Pretty much pure nostalgia value and the fact that Lunatic of God's Creation, Sacrificial Suicide, and Dead By Dawn are sweet tunes.
