No matter what you've heard about Philosophy Of The World - all of it's true, incidentally - nothing can really prepare you for the shock of actually hearing this. The three members of this band sound like they've never actually heard any music before in their life, because there is absolutely no sense of meter, cohesion, or tonality to about 90% of what's happening here.
But it's not total crap. Well, it IS total crap, but by virtue of being genuinely groundbreaking in just how far it goes in breaking down 'good' musical practice, it becomes one of the most dizzying albums ever. The combination of Dot Wiggins' voice and this clattering, alien music is simply one of the creepiest, most fascinating experiences popular music has ever offered up. 3 is an appropriate rating because it's an average between 1 and 5 - either rating works perfectly for this album.
To quote AMG, 'There is nothing in your CD collection that sounds REMOTELY like this.'

I'm very confused by this album. Objectively it's completely terrible, but I think I kind of like it. But not in an "I want to listen to this often" kind of way. I don't know, I'm charmed by this for some reason.

The musicianship, lyrics, and generally quality of the music here isn't very good.

These sisters severely lack guidance, and really any musical talent at all. Though this album may be very influential, and I actually do enjoy listening to it, I can't say I listen to it for quality music. It may have been way ahead of its time, but anything that came out because of this is much more... coherent.

Is this objectively terrible? yes, but there is something just enjoyable about it. I
think that this album prooves how pretensions a lot of people are. By the logic of the
reasoning as to why publications like pitchfork gave this such high scores (with some
snobby BS about the essence of art) every single audio recording of infants with 'Fisher-
Price' music sets should go down as the greatest auditory achievements mankind has ever
done. You can say you have a guilty pleasure, no need to hide it by making up nonsense to
convince yourself its good

And here I came wondering there's no way an album could be that bad? Then I listened... Repetitive instrumentation, off key vocals, and both don't even attempt to sync up w/ one another either. Still better than Hello Kitty Suicide Club's ^_^ album. Is it depraving of me to hope a Lo-Fi band covers this entire album and "improves" upon the album?

It's certainly not any good, but listening to this album is such a strangely wonderful experience. Even if the art itself is godawful, it'll force you to ask questions like, "What is music?" and "What influences us to believe some art is good and other art is bad?". So for that, thank you Based Shaggs.
