I haven't enjoyed a Bob Dylan album since Time Out of Mind, and found his Hidalgo works to not only be tepid and bland, but infuriatingly annoying... But this, this is pretty god damn good for the old man. The last two tracks are lengthy tomes of dead weight, but everything beforehand makes this the best release Dylan has put out since he got his AARP card.

Yeah his voice is a little rough these days but who cares? At 71 years old Bob Dylan shows once again that he's still "got it", and releases another great album.

The fourth chapter of Dylan's late career Americana hot streak is his most lyrically potent. This is not the work of a man with one eye on pulling on the rabbit slippers and sighing contentedly in his armchair. It's not even the work of a man playing pin the tail on the donkey with his previous greatness. This is the work of pop's greatest ever songwriter still developing his trade. Best songs: 'Scarlet Town', 'Tin Angels', 'Long and Wasted Years'.

Though his voice isn't as strong as it once was; Bob Dyan's ability to inherit age with grace and still produce such a gorgeous collection of songs on Tempest proves the man is an ageless artist in my opinion. He still has it! and it will never go away. From the swelling guitars of 'Narrow Way' to the epic ballad of 'Tin Angel', I loved everything about this album that I continue to love and have loved about Bob Dylan.

Now I was kind of excited for this for two reasons. One, I'd never really heard Bob Dylan before save for a song or two when I was younger, and I knew he's a legend and all. Two, the reviews were mostly praise. Now that I've finished it, though...I like the writing, but I'm not a big fan of Dylan's performance on it. The lyrics are incredible, as in seriously gripping (especially on Tin Angel, and Tempest), but his singing is just a bit too simple and predictable, same with the music. Once you've heard a couple bars, you know exactly how the rest of the song is going to flow and sound. Has his voice always been so raspy? He sounds like he's about to die at some points. I mean, the album's not horrible, I'd even say it's good because of the lyricism and delivery on some tracks, but overall...there's not much I'd want to listen to again. Really disappointing.
