What's really interesting about North is how it embodies vintage early 2000's
contemporary pop rock and makes that sound still consistently work as well as it did 10
years ago. This is pop for grey skies, with a bleak enough production to appeal to post-
grunge and alternative rock audiences as much as Matchbox Twenty used to in their prime, but
loaded with enough snappy and catchy hooks to find a home on the pop charts. The end result
is an album that showcases the band refining their sound with their increasing maturity,
resembles something like a combination between Coldplay and Maroon 5, and is a recommendable
album for anyone looking for a pop rock record with a more somber atmosphere. The Fray
should take notes.

Matchbox Twenty make their recipe even blander than before, with no hint of self-awareness when "Put Your Hands Up" blasts through like when Rivers Cuomo thought he could write with Dr. Luke.
