3.5 great | Sunn177 | August 27th 12 | remember the good old days when people actually waited for the album to come out before
listening to it and then officially forming an opinion about it?..........Yeah me either.

0.0 | PsilocybeDreamer | September 13th 12 | I'm sure this album will be great, but it's kind of difficult to rate it without listening to it. Actually tbh I think you should listen to an album a few times before you give it a rating. Come back and rate this shit a few weeks after it comes out.

3.0 good | portableheadd | October 31st 16 | A decent effort for Pig Destroyer that doesn't reach the high water mark left by previous albums. Lacking particularly would be J.R. Hayes' vocal delivery, which used to be the most high piercing and ferocious in the business, but now sound more like a worn out raspy bark.rOverall worth getting for the mighty riffing talents of Scott Hull and because a weak Pig Destroyer is still a better band than most on a good day.

3.0 good | Skyline28 | April 21st 16 | An enjoyable listen but pretty average by the standards of Pig Destroyer sounding more like a slowed down Agoraphobic Nosebleed than the band that released 'Terrifyer'. The grooves are still there as is the unrelenting aggression but the nightmarish feeling of being locked inside the head of a serial killer is missing from this release.

2.0 poor | EasterInTheBatcave | December 21st 15 | A lackluster deathgrind effort. It's technically proficient, but also dry, lifeless, and recycled. None of the riffs are memorable, the samples (aside from the openings of "Sis" and "The Bug") add nothing to the album, and it is oftentimes just flat out boring. The second half is slightly better than the first, but still nowhere near the level of the band's best work, Terrifyer. The production is okay too (a little more guitar would have been nice), but that's it-- just okay. Terrifyer had a basically perfect production job.

2.5 average | BtwntheAKIRAndMe | July 19th 15 | Mid 5 out of 10: Pig Destroyer is one of my absolute favorite bands. On this LP however, what made them what I love was taken away and it just comes out as a pretty lackluster grindcore LP with killer vocals from none other than J.R. Hayes.

0.0 | BMDrummer | February 25th 15 | a classic case of when a band's scary sound becomes dull after so much. the whole time i listened, it just kinda floated around leaving no effect on me.

0.0 | | July 21st 14 | Book Burner, an arguable return-to-form for the Virginia-based grindcore band, suffers from low production values and uninspired musicianship, as well as lyrics that aren't as strong as before. The cover art and the contributions made by Kat Katz and Richard Johnson, however, are perhaps the only two things that the album's got going for it.

3.5 great | BRAman22 | June 30th 14 | An album that isn't among Pig Destroyer's highest ranks still manages to be a pretty good listen.

3.5 great | TheMiseryCloud | November 3rd 12 | This album is hard to classify as it is an isn't a full fledged PxDx experience. This album is hard as fuck but just doesn't live up to its predecessors. Why? One thing, the production value (especially on the vocals) just suffers and the material while good isn't good enough to make up for that fact. rJ.R. Hayes used to have a bite to his vocals that left you almost hungover from pure brutality the next morning. On this album though he just sounds worn out and tired compared to his efforts on Terrifyer and Phantom Limb. rScott Hull has some skull bashing riffs on this album but once again it falls under the curse of the previous paragraph. His riffs just don't have the bark that they used to have. Go back in time and listen to Junkyard God and compare it to any song on Book Burner and you'll see what I mean.rThe drummer is new and it happens to be the same dude that beats skins in Misery Index. Adam Jarvis is his name and he is the man.......... Just not in this band.rAll in all this album has its moments and it is a true grindcore album. Its just not the PxDx album I was hoping for which sucks because so far this fall has seen some of the greatest releases in Metal/Death Metal history.
