If The Chariot's 2010 album Long Live is a tidal wave, consider 2012's One Wing to be a fucking tsunami. More varied, more experimental, more focused, and their most devastatingly powerful album yet.

The first word that comes to mind when listening to The Chariot's One Wing is blistering. There isn't a moment on this album where you don't feel the fierce intensity of the band, even in its most contemplative passages. It's a crazed affair built around the chaotic brand of hardcore, yet The Chariot revel in making this brief 30-minute ride intoxicating. They merge their ferocious, oddly reassuring style with ostensibly eccentric, left-field detours into piano balladry, ambient and even spaghetti western music. Decidedly these eyebrow-raising segments provide the disc with a breath of fresh air that breaks through a relentless onslaught. There's no place for randomness though with every track deliberately planned and structured. All in all, The Chariot show limitless potential for growth and One Wing is their most cohesive and ambitious record thus far.

I usually hate albums with a short length, but this is the first time where I feel like it couldn't have been any other way; it says what it wants to say and not a second is wasted. "First" and "Cheek" are the two best songs I've heard this year, and every song is fantastic and memorable. A special album.

For an album officially 10 years old, the staying power of the Chariot's One Wing is immense. It is still one fo the more dissonant and dense records of the 2010's, and one of my personal favorites. The more I have listened to it, the more I find something to appreciate. Whether it be the guitar work, the steady rhythm section, or Scogin's vocals that feel as if he is gargling razorblades, this record RIPS.

Unbelievable, undeniable riffage. I don't believe One Wing deserves the most dazzling praise. Its ideas, while executed quite well and performed cohesively, aren't entirely groundbreaking. It's certainly a wild, joyful, ecstatic ride, but what the Chariot's final album possessed in creating a few supreme tracks it lacked in consummate consistency.

Metalcore that tries, and succeeds, to be something more than metalcore. First fucking jams, Speak is crushing, and there's good ol' Charlie. I do think that finishing the album with Charlie speaking would have been much more powerful than what they've done here.

The Chariot's (sadly) last record goes out with a fucking bang. "One Wing" is the bands most diverse and powerful release, which makes the fact that The Chariot are no more sting even more. "One Wing" may be one of the most beautiful yet cathartic Swan Songs recorded.

Considering The Chariot is one of the more overrated bands in the hardcore scene, I
definitely approached this album with low expectations. And perhaps that made the listening
experience better for me, but this album exceeded my every expectation; The Chariot proved
that they could play hardcore far and beyond the lofty standards that many listeners
believed Long Live set. Chaotic and frenetic, the band exercises an impressive musical
acumen, sporting thunderous, chugging riffs among haunting piano melodies, providing
humorous yet classy reprieves from the bedlam when necessary, and marrying unbridled
hardcore with a lively western passage on one of the year's best songs, "First".

Okay, "First" and "Tongues" were good, and I definitely hear a band headed in the right direction, but there is nothing here that hasn't been already done a hundred times before. Far from deserving of the hyperbolic acclaim that this album has been receiving as of late. 3.5/5

It begins with distorted screaming going head-to-head with a churning, downtuned guitar.
Some thirty-odd minutes later, it ends with a wall of feedback and a speech from Charlie
Chaplin. In the in-between, The Chariot deliver their most ambitious, belligerent and,
ultimately, finest LP to date. One Wing refuses to let the loss of long-time bassist
Jon Kindler reduce the band to a three-legged dog: instead, the band move into territory
both traditionally chaotic ("Not," "in") and surprisingly left-of-centre (see the spaghetti
western progression of "First" or the shaken piano balladry of highlight "Speak"). They show
a hunger for creativity, longing beyond the binary-code riffs that have sunken their
contemporaries. With it, they've created one of the most rewarding albums of 2012. A new
chapter begins.

Music for teenage angst or just boring teenagers looking to appear edgy and cultured. This is no depth to this music at all. Riff after riff, with angst-ridden, over-the-top vocals that makes this hard to sit through. It's just really silly. The high rating is extremely silly as well, but hey, this is Sputnik, right?

Without a doubt, this is a masterpiece, The Chariot are the most innovative, intelligent and exciting bands
around today. I had goosebumps throughout this album's all-too-short exhilarating first listen. If I hadn't
have heard the Charlie Chaplin speech 1000 times before and become tired of it, I probably would've 5'd this
album, I know this is a personal issue, but the fact that speech has lost it's epicness on me was a real deal
breaker.

Fun and enjoyable record but my only two problems lie with the lack of a decent amount of memorability and the fact that this is pretty much one-sided in terms of emotional and musical presentation. But I guess since I'm no hardcore aficionado, I am not one to prefer a one-topping pizza. Although, this is better than most (if not all) hardcore albums that I've heard this year. The best song is First, where they masturbate to Ennio Morricone for a good portion of the song. Speak is kind of cringe-worthy. Tuff guy music/5
