Awesome... just awesome. I know this EP will get lots of hate from people saying "vocals bad" or "lol deathcore"... but, this is an awesome EP and I love every song on it.

3.75. a nice change for them, implementing progressive elements as well as keys and some cleans. also by all means a return to form with MY DAMNATION being one of the worst records of 2011.

Jason Richardsons guitar work can't cover up the fact that the rest of the band is so boring and generic that it's not even funny. But its still a huge improvement over anything they've done before, that being said it's still not even that good. Also the vocalist needs to just die in a hole.

Don't know why I bothered getting hold of this. Anyway, a huge improvement on their previous material which rwas completely unlistenable. Jason Richardson has added some spritely elements to the guitar work in Evolve. rHe picks off from where he left off in the Discovery. Unfortunately for him though, his fellow bandmates are rlittle more than competent musicians and are hell bent on producing records so generic and watered down rthey won't find their way out of 15 year old scenesters' CD collections. Also, the vocalist should be put down.

Alongside Chelsea Grin's latest studio album Ashes to Ashes, the band's second EP was quite a welcome change of pace. Their earlier output displayed what was mostly a quantity-over-quality feature, in spite of the releases not lasting for very long; part of this had to do with how one-dimensional the songwriting formula was. Evolve, fortunately on the other end of the spectrum, is what it says on the tin. In spite of continuing to be lyrically flawed and containing a barely above-average performance from vocalist Alex Koehler, the guitar work is surprisingly impressive and the addition of melody didn't go wasted as well. By and large, "Lilith" and "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" are songs that I find to be noteworthy on just this one extended play.

There was some interesting parts in the album but most of the album still sucked. Also it felt random and all over the place musically: it would go from heavy to an almost orchestra sound to melodic vocals back to heavy. It also seemed too dramatic at times. It just became annoying after a while.

Amazing EP. Everything about it is perfect. The instrumental side of it and the lyrical side of it. Every song has a certain meaning within this EP and I believe it to be very powerful messages. 'Second Coming' is a song about the world turning into complete darkness. Alex Koehler, screamist and song writer, wanted to make this song like the second coming of Jesus besides, the opposite. The lyrics begin with "No more heroes, no more ties. No more saviours, no more lies". Which, really, gets straight to the point about the song. Koehler doesn't want people to believe within a 'saviour' or a 'hero', he wants fans to believe in themselves. Every song within the EP has its own meaning and that's just an example. I think that this EP speaks out to a lot of people within the fanbase; it has a LOT of meaning behind it. r

You can tell this band is at least trying to experiment a little on this new one with clean singing' operatic vocals, and born of osiris esque guitar harmonies. It still couldn't be saved from some of the shittiest screamed vocals around and for the most part generic chug a chug riffs.
