I don't get the hype about this. The lyrics are bad, I don't agree with the musicianship at all, all the instrumentals sound exactly the same to me and -- just like all other Rise bands -- sound so artificial. Yeah, I just can't dig this as much as most of you. Obviously his vocals are extremely good but, sadly, that's the only good thing about this album.

Like always, a decent effort, however, I'm slightly disappointed in the direction Matt takes with his
vocals at times. His voice is great (although a little high pitched) but the placement of certain melodies in
some of the choruses just don't seem right - resulting in a lack of flow in each song (apparent in 'legacy'
especially). Other than that, this is quite an enjoyable listen which took me a little while to get into.

If you didn't like The Hollow, you won't like this. It is, in every aspect, The Hollow Part 2. Although in some parts the formula wears a little thin, they change it up just enough to prevent the album from slipping into dull monotony. rSimply put, it's nothing new, but still done well enough to be an entertaining listen.

Again another nearly flawless album, with only a few tracks lacking either the same level of musical ingenuity as the others or the same lyrical strength, but each song is great in its own right and all have their strong points with some being practically perfect.

This is not fresh, this is not great, this is average: pure and plain mainstream metalcore coming out from a Rise Records band. Where is this supposed "fantastic guitar work"? Praise to Mullins' growl? His voice is overproduced as f**k. There's a thin line between mainstream c**pcore and chorus-friendly metalcore, MMF with "Challenger" crossed it in the wrong direction.

Overproduced. If you liked their old stuff you have zero reason to like this.
EVEN the Hollow was better than this. This isn't even arranged well.

Following the Hallow, Challenger is slightly better. Is the album groundbreaking? No. Is it entertaining? FUCK YES! Challenger starts off with "Without Walls" which begins with a chant leading to amazing screams by the screamer of the band brings in some breakdowns that will kick your ass. My favorite tracks on this record other than "Without Walls" is "Prove Me Right", "Alive in the Lights" and "Vices". Overall, very entertaining listen. Check it out.

Memphis May Fire being the only well-known band from my hometown of Dallas nowadays puts out something that isn't ground-breaking, but is still a damn good listen. Matt Mullins really shines in every aspect of his vocals on here. True the lyrics may be avergae, but they don't don't seem that way due to Mullins' emotion. Many just consider bands on Rise Records to be clones of each other, but one listen to this album will show them that MMF is the leader of that pack. All in all, Challenger is a very good and catchy album that may find its way to the top of everybody's best album lists of 2012.

Memphis May Fire's detractors will find nothing here to throw them off the warpath. Pretty standard fare for
the former Southern Post Hardcore outfit. Their sound has become much more befitting of their label, Rise
Records as time has passed. Heavy use of synthesiser, choppy palm muted sections and sugary clean vocals
dominate throughout. Despite the album fading badly in the second half there are a number of catchy tunes
that you just cant help but bob your head along too. "Vices" and "Prove Me Right" carrying some of the most
infectious hooks you are to hear from 2012. In a sea of bands doing this exact thing, Memphis May Fire are
one of the better examples of it being done well.
