It?s alright. Largely a return to form after the blasphemous Unspoken King, this album sees Cryptopsy return to what they did in the nineties. That is Brutal, technical and mad Death Metal. Since it is basically an exact revamp of old stuff, it sounds uncreative, and unfortunately the vocals are absolute trash.

A pretty good bounce-back from "The Unspoken King", although still not sold on Matt McGachy. Overall however it brings back the technicality and turns the speed up a notch, well-rounded album. The highlight is "Ominous" followed by their new anthem "Two-Pound Torch".

If you can easily manage to get past the shoddy production quality and the song titles - which may or may not have any relevance to the lyrics - Cryptopsy's self-entitled album is technical, unbridled chaos from start to finish that is mostly enjoyable. Compared to The Unspoken King, this one's a necrotic improvement.

Probably the worst thing the band has put out, although And Then Youll Beg might take that, this really is bad because its overproduced and the vocals suck and at times it feels too disjointed. Sure, theyve put out a solid instrumental performance here with huge levels of technicality that are unparallelled by many of their peers but it still sucks because of Matts vocals and the fact the production is so gay and in your face...
