Mexican acoustic duo Rodrigo y Gabriela, composed of Rodrigo Sanchez and Gabriela Quintero, are definitely something else. This eponymous full-length effort that was released in 2006 is sure to tickle any guitar geek's fancy, and it may very well bring out the enthusiasm of those who are aspiring musicians. While there are moments where the dynamic duo do go overboard with the playing, said instances are relatively few and far between, and the craftsmanship is so synergistic one could ignore some of those over-the-top abilities all together. The way Rodrigo y Gabriela manage to showcase stylistic influences such as folk, flamenco rumba, and even throw in heavy metal in the mix; regarding the latter, Metallica were particularly influential to these two. Passion, this self-titled studio album hardly (if at all) lacks, and the material these Hispanics are working with is enough to keep opponents on their toes. It's nothing short of coolness.

All I can Say Is what technique if anybody can match the guitar hitting goddess GABRIELA I'll want to shake their hands, that is an interesting method of rhythm guitar. While Rodrigo's melody lines seem to be rapid and highly technical they are not his melody lines are made off simple chord and arpeggio patterns that work perfectly with the other peices.Recomended tracks include the Led Zeppelin cover of
"Stairway To Heaven",and also "Tamacun","Diablo Rojo",
"Juan Loco". This album is a must hear for for guitarists or those who just find this style interesting.

A two-guitared duo (!) with so much passion in their guitarplay that its almost touchable. Great innovative comp-guitar by Gabriela, great picking and melodies by Rodrigo. Includes many covers by famous rock/metal bands such as Metallica & Led Zeppelin. Recommended to everyone!

A band that any half-witted person who enjoys good guitar work should check out. This band infuses many different playing styles in the work that they do and it all comes together to form an amazing sound. This music is a perfect example of how remakes of songs should be. Stairway to Heaven is unmistakeable, and Orion is a song that it seems like Metallica did was replace the drums with a guitar and switch everything over to acoustic. Truly amazing work.

Rodrigo & Gabriela are a acoustic guitar duo who originally met in a Mexican thrash metal band. This album is purely instrumental full of latin, jazz, folk infected melodies, covers of Led Zeppelin and Metallica and the percussive use of slapping the body of their acoustic guitars. The speed and intensity of their acoustic playing is amazing this is definately an album to checkout for those who play the instrument.
