DIIV join in on the sound of the moment without feeling the need to personalize, flavor, or
put any amount of effort into uniqueness. Reverb instead of soul, shimmers instead of heart,
and blandness instead of demand. You have already albums that have honed this sound into
something more substantial. Move on, beat a new dead horse, already, Brooklyn.

The first time I listened to this album, I just enjoyed it. After my 2nd time through, it was jammin. Now, it might be one of my favorite albums of all time.

Cool indie surf - basically jangly and reverby dream pop with post-punk basslines - that understood its formula so well it didn't really tried to make the songs distinctive. It's thus extremely monochrome - but it's a beautiful chrome!

Textbook 3.6: this is an album that I enjoyed all the way through but that did not strike me in a lot of places either. Would be nice to jam in the background or something because there isn't a single bad track here. This is largely instrumental although there are some nice vox here and there - I really dig them on 6 for instance. But before they kicked in on 2 I thought this was going to be instrumental. This is light, sweet, very chill, and rarely catchy - 8 probably being the catchiest one with its fun upbeat drumming. The music rarely explodes so to speak (if ever), which may partly explain why this never felt hugely marking. But tracks like the post-rockish 4 are just lovely. 11 is perhaps the only track that lost me a little bit, not because it is bad, but just because its darker, psych undertones didn't feel like they fit the band as well as the rest. I love the tones on 13 too, and the album opener is nice as well. 3.6

Like slow dancing in a diner from a Coppola movie (Sofia that is). It's all aesthetics. The mastering is great - its sequencing from track to track allows it's "background-ness" to further enhance its dreaminess. This has always been dream-pop's intent and if Beach House hadn't already mastered it I'd say we'd have a new heir to the throne. The albums crowning achievement however is it's ability to make guitar relevant again- its hooks are purely guitar based, all plucky and echoed. Would definitely recommend to intense dream-pop fans.

Oshin is another pop record using entirely too much reverb for my liking and doesn't exactly bring anything new to to table. but that doesn't mean this album sounds bad because it doesn't. a very accessible pop record that i think is so sweet that anyone could enjoy it
