This album is probably better than Rubberneck in overall song writing and band performance. Lewis's voice is still vibrant and chaotic but is more polished when he needs it to be. The band is just as tight with a very structured and consistent rhythm section. The production is a bit more commercial and has less of a one take sound to it. The lyrical content is still as twisted and strange as it was on Rubberneck which is a consistent theme for Toadies. Standout tracks in my opinion are Push The Hand, Little Sin, Heel, What We Have We Steal, Jigsaw Girl, and Sweetness which is over half of the album. This is possibly one of the last great 90's style hard rock albums from a 90's band before musical tastes forced changes. I highly recommend a listen.

This is one of the first albums I liked without the help of anyone else. We all have friends and family-- whoever that influences us and introduces us to music etc. I was a big fan of Rubberneck and most would say that Rubberneck outranks Hell Below Stars Above, but I just found this album to have better songs- especially Love Doll skin (last track) . it's a classic for me.
