There's an intangible quality to this record, a sinewy, distant feeling, that attracts me to it. A groovy, at times shimmeringly beautiful and radiant, torrent of music, An Awesome Wave is really just that. Harmonies are ghostly and creepy in the best way, drum beats are utilized in service of moving bodies, and the synth-coated texture assures that the whole affair is thoroughly modern. A brilliant debut album, which I suspect may mark the beginning of a rather unique career for this young, aloof band. Listen to it loud and make sure you can feel the bass in your chest.

Obviously a talented band and a good album, but it seemed to have some filler. Enjoyable listen but medium staying power. They'll probably improve a lot by their second album.

This album is so fantastic. It's rare that a project filled with quirks and eccentricities is this thorough and whole. These guys complement their experimentation and geometric reference with an unwavering, genuine passion. Really awesome debut.

An interesting find, this is raw and felt in the right ways. Though only after a few listens
it is clear this won't stay with me long after June. The vocals are most definitely what
they view as their selling point, using hipsters' sensitive reflex to call 'cultured' to
their advantage. His voice teeters between sounding tired or annoyingly twang, instead.
But in the same breath, I also wouldn't put it past these guys to possibly make one of my
favorite albums in the future.

This was hit or miss for me. These guys are very clearly original, so sometimes, the songs worked wonders, and sometimes, not as good.

Mercury-winning indie pop tends to raise some eyebrows. You expect something kinda cool, with a sound lying halfway between the original and the boring. This one is no exception. With subtle touches of folk and electronica, the album's eclecticism is made accessible by how poppy the melodies are, but the end result sounds uncertain to me. I feel like they wanted to be bold, but they didn't fully manage to be. There are some good ideas though, like the duality of "Fitzpleasure"'s abrasive bass and quirky vocals.

Strong 4 - Unique piece of alternative music, extremely catchy accesible, yet very original, well structured and very memorable. This album moves your body, and your head at the same time, laying down groovy rhythms, shimmering and detailed instrumentation, dark and kind of creepy electronics and fairly smart and original lyricism.

Recently I got into an argument about if Everything Everything was better than Alt J. I argued Alt J was far better, and I
still agree. Only recently when my partner was jamming this release after I bought her the CD for An Awesome Wave can
I really say that there's really nothing much that I would want changed about this album. It's a really solid hybrid of a
pop record. Not crazy creative, but I don't think that's the point. Instead, it's the subtleties that define this record!
