Despite his impressive back catalogue and seemingly limitless talents, Ghostface hasn't released a pure classic yet - at least not solo. Supreme Cleintele had several low points, Ironman was distinctly mediocre, and Bulletproof Wallets and The Pretty Toney Album had too many good songs cut out - and too many commercial plays left in - to be perfect.
With Fishscale, Ghost has finally got it right, crafting not only on of the best (if not the best) album of this century, but also one of the best albums of all time.
I'm not going to go track-for-track on this one, because I would be saying the same basic thing about each song. Every single beat on her bangs with head-knodding drums and stunning innovation. Every line, every inflection, every rhyme, is just amazing. Ghost is better than he has ever been. This CD still doesn't have much for the radio (except perhaps "Back Like That"), but will surely win over a new generation of hip-hop heads.
The only possible complaint I could have is the bonus track - Three Bricks - which recycles a Biggie verse again, but that's more Diddy's fault than Ghost's.
The Monster Don is back, and better than ever.
(Note: for those wondering, the skits on here are all tight, entertaining, and purposeful - you can listen to this beginning to end)
