In my opinion this album is rather underwhelming. Especially the cuts featuring heavy guitars have not aged well. Even 'This Mess We're In' with Thom Yorke on vocals I do not enjoy; I find his singing rather annoying on here, specifically on the third verse, where Harvey just speaks over Thom with the same lyrics. In total, there are some decent songs on this project, but for me they form a minority.

Tense yet somehow atmospheric, "Stories from the City" is an album of personal dissection and charisma. The music isn't expansive and is even oft-muted yet this works with Harvey's unblinking vocals to create an engrossing listen. Best Tracks: 'This Mess We're In', 'Horses in My Dreams', 'We Float', 'This is Love', 'Beautiful Feeling'.
