Both rappers at their best and it's... marginally better than the average rap album. Solid production throughout, strong song ideas, and is well rounded as an album release. But Mos Def and Talib Kweli both have their weaknesses on display here: There have been few, if any, occurrences where Talib Kweli did not utterly trample over the beat with his flow. Mos Def, whose flow and writing is both more musical and more compact than Kweli's, values his singing voice more than he probably should. Overall, it's a cohesive album with not too much in name of highlights.

Glazed with some of the most intelligently delivered and passionately intentional lyrics that only Mos Def and Taleb could create together. This collaboration was a long time waiting and though the beats at times dance lapsidaisically completely removed from pop-culture's grinding beats that drive songs beyond having any content, but I suppose that it is only appropriate to shun the modern ways in totality. These two have a sermon on 13 tracks and none of it was intended to be played "in da club" and we'd never expect anything less.
Kudos young black men who rap on purpose.

From literally a first listen, this shit is probably my favourite hip hop album I?ve listened to in the last 2 years. 5 might be pushing it, but it is DEFINITELY not falling short of that boundary. Some almost prophetic insight on this one, 1998 couldn?t grasp this like 2023 can. Edit: is not on the level of some of my other 5s, and started thinking if the infamous or low end theory aren?t 5s I don?t know if this is

Title: "Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star"
Artist: Mos Def & Talib Kweli (aka BlackStar") So just a heads up im gonna be doing more music reviews. If I don't have any movie reviews, I'll most likely post some Music Reviews. I already have 1 music review, you can find it in my page, I posted it two months ago i belive.
So "Blackstar" is a collaboration album between two hip-hop artists: Mos Def & Talib Kweli. So I did research and it turns out that Def & Kweli were gonna drop their solo albums around the same time. But the time they met, they agreed to start working on a collaboration project before there solo projects. So right off the bat, this album is great! Although I haven't really listened to alot of their solo albums, but what I have heard them (in feature) they are really good. The title of the album is actually a reference to a shipping line. The album revolves around modern-day issues in that specific time period, philosophical ideas, & and life in Brooklyn, New York. Def & Kweli really do mesh togethher pretty well. One verse would be Kweli and Kweli would say a word and Mos Def starts going, I just love it when artists do that  . The beats are really chill. Mostly this whole album is pretty chill. It isn't super hardcore beats. Its just chill. The album is only 13 songs, so it would really take you at least 30-40 minutes to listen to it. Im glad it was because when I listen to an album thats like 17-20 songs, I have to take breaks in the middle of the album. And Blackstar is just short & sweet which is really nice.
I give "Blackstar" a 9.8/10

Incredibly, neither Mos Def (Yasiin Bey) nor Talib Kweli had released a solo effort before this album. The two emcees' chemistry is out of this world, and their ability is not put to waste. Fantastic lyricism over great beats/production; one of the best hip-hop/rap albums of all time - and what got me into the genre as a whole.
