I've been trying to get into jazz for a while (more because I want to learn jazz piano and jam with friends than any particular love for jazz) but even so I just ask my IRL friends who are pretty familiar with jazz. Sorry to hear about your struggles man :(( Hopefully the studying abroad works out! Are there any countries you're looking at in particular? I know German universities are free, but that is as a student there... not sure about being an exchange student.

 | Frippertronics it harkens a bit back to their early folk sound (Campfire Songs, Here Comes The Indian) while having a more ambient electronic feel on most of the tracks (Footy being the odd one out, this one honestly feels like Avey could pull it off if Deakin gave it to AC). Plus, it borrows a lot from field recordings due to his experience in Mali, but that's been discussed over and over, whether it be from my review, p4k or from the man himself.

| wwyd well, i find that thinking about the ratings defeats the purpose because you don't REALLY need to justify your feelings about an album unless you're trying to convince someone else... but still, whatever works for you works for me. and as for thugga, sure ss3 is only 8 songs long, but if you look at the previous two ss tapes, which have both been 20 tracks, they have been loaded with filler (ss1) especially, so it's good to see him putting quality ahead of quantity for a change.

I've just noticed that over the past year or so, s*** like that has become a lot more prominent (see: pots telling futures to kill himself, futures, rosa and a whole bunch of others telling snide to kill himself, etc.), and it really is pretty disgusting. is it so hard to treat people with a bit of decency and respect? just think about what you say. don't be ****ing stupid. you and I know you're not stupid, so why lower yourself to that standard.

| SachikoM hardcore and pv shows are a blast. i remember a friend snuck me into a show (when i was 17) to see extortion, napalm death and carcass and it was amazing. so many bodies moving, and so much energy in the crowd. i wasn't a huge fan of the music playing but it was definitely an eye-opening experience. so much fun.... seriously tho, fukk nails, could not agree more.

| Archael i'll be the first to admit that it's not perfect, but good god it's all so obscenely gorgeous. the first 4 are top notch, but there are even betterer ones!! one of the lesser-ish songs on here, sounds exactly like loveless, and i ain't even mad.

| SachikoM Furthermore, the genre (once you get past it's ugly exterior) is conservative as **** (I mean, any obscura is hardly as avant-garde as everyone makes it seem). It has gone nowhere in the past 10 years. It is dominated by pseudo-intellectual pandering, machismo posturing (which doesn't provide any adrenaline rush), and offensive images (which, in all honesty, aren't very shocking). I could honestly go on and on, but I can't be ****ed atm, so I'll finish my rant tomorrow.

Excluding the boneheaded fans who just ****ing suck in general, musically one of the biggest annoyances (especially with modern metal) is the plastic sheen everything has. Every note is played perfectly, every beat is on time, everything is so ****ing sterile. It is emotionless to the nth ****ing degree. Further, the obsession with who is the most technically accomplished is really ****ing detestable. To be continued....

| LilLioness You know, it's fine. When I saw TV, I mean pretentious TV not soaps (although soaps often times have a lot of good ideas that just aren't executed well). If I were to boil down which writers influence me the most: Chuck Palahniuk, Kurt Vonnegut and China Mieville. But even then, I don't want to be held down by homage.

| LilLioness Yes and no. Literature is a much larger medium and while there are gruesome stories and stories about ****ed up people, I tend to be disappointed by novels more often than not. A lot of the time, novels can feel abbreviated, like you will have a drawn out first half and rushed second half. Actually, most novels I have read are like that.

| LilLioness I don't recall talking about embracing cheesiness. :P I just said, that I prefer the pacing tv has over what you typically find in novels (also TV is less shy about hurting/killing main characters and having said main characters do awful s*** to other people). That isn't to say I would write novels like typical TV shows, just that I prefer a multi-media mindset.

I just get annoyed when people spout s*** like "kill your darlings" like it is some kind of absolute. There are no absolutes in writings. Even kitschy cliches can be fantastic when done a certain way.

| LilLioness As a writer with a preference for visual media, film and Tv watching are a must. It helps with getting the rhythm and pacing of scenes down because you have people saying lines at their own paces. You should def listen to it.

| Cygnatti sometimes I really like repetitive droning s*** but other times I can't help but feel completely indifferent to them. basically, if I can't tell if I'm listening to music or if it's just my tinnitus, there's almost no hope for me.
