  • kildare That's the one! I'm stoked. On the singles Nero sounds more comfortable with the style on Less to Heaven, like he's really starting to explore that newer space. I've got high hopes for it. Last year was mostly an industrial drought for me. And I think it's too bad you weren't able to keep the "Black Industrial" tag on their page - it was a fitting coinage. Tag overload, though
    March 20 06:57 PM
  • kildare Looks like it's gonna be a killer week for both black-metal AND black-industrial
    March 20 06:22 PM
  • ScuroFantasma Nah not gym, just doing body-weight training. De Rerum Natura is a poetic retelling of Epicurus lost books On Nature, so it is a good insight mostly into the atomist physics, with ethical implications peppered throughout. Dune and Messiah were both good, the former more than the latter. I?ll start CoD soon but I want to get a few shorter novels in before then. I saw that you?re reading Club Dumas, I thought it might have something to do with Alexandre, but I?ve never seen 9th gate
    March 10 04:13 AM
  • ScuroFantasma Cool man, that book is a good choice too, although the introduction is rather hostile it?s still a good read. I?ve mostly been reading up on nutrition and calisthenics lately so not so much philosophy, and also finished Dune Messiah a couple weeks ago. At the moment I?m working through some shorter novels/novellas before tackling Children of Dune.
    February 23 07:21 AM
  • ScuroFantasma Ayyy, nice to see you reading Lucretius!
    February 22 12:11 PM
  • Mort. hey man have you heard the band Human Impact? genuinely think it might be up your street. Industrial noise rock with electronics. cool stuff. havent got to the newest album yet but the 2020 lp is great

  • kildare Hey Dr, Just FYI I mentioned you and some of your work in a message to Willie: https://www.sputnikmusic.com/user/Willie
    December 31 12:45 AM
  • artiswar Your FIR review was a great read! Just wanted to tell you that, I don't want to post in the thread. Same goes with your MM one. Really impressed with your writing recently
    December 4 05:42 AM
  • ConcubinaryCode Its a little unnecessarily long but still a terrific jam i think. There's definitely some changes i dont agree with but I've just been trying to keep a more open mind and let it settle in. It's just good to hear Akira make SH music again more than anything.
    December 1 05:19 PM
  • ConcubinaryCode Sh2 remake album thoughts?
    December 1 02:03 AM
  • cycosynner Appreciate the Manson review. You're getting jumped on for it unfairly.
    November 24 02:45 AM
  • DadKungFu Gonz you the man
    October 25 04:07 PM
  • CalculatingInfinity Yo sorry I completely forgot to reply to you about the song you sent me, I did jam it. I'm not the target audience at all for this but I think it slaps pretty hard.
    October 10 03:33 PM
  • ScuroFantasma Yeahhh thats it, I have the CD somewhere around here. I feel the same way man, so many books on my to read list, so little time to get to them, and I also have a bad habit of starting too many books at the same time and progressing through them very slowly. Really enjoying your new stuff bro, you were right with the side I prefer. Hope you dont mind the comparison, but I get LB vibes.
    September 23 07:59 AM
  • ScuroFantasma Sure, if I had to recommend just one book, other than just reading what?s left from Epicurus himself which is a slim volume, I would definitely suggest Norman Wentorth DeWitt?s book Epicurus and His Philosophy. It contextualises and historically locates Epicureanism, while explaining what his revolutionary achievements actually were. And I will absolutely check out your music man, plug away haha. Btw did you have a band a while ago called something Sands, or am I misremembering?
    September 22 10:38 AM
  • ScuroFantasma Alright, thanks for the recommendation, I will make sure to check that out. I also enjoy Ancient Greek and Roman history, particularly through the lens of philosophy, but I am partial to Epicureanism and the pre-Socratics more than I am stoicism. It never hurts to learn more about it though, and the book you suggested sounds intriguing.
    September 22 06:25 AM
  • ScuroFantasma That makes sense, he seems especially lost when he wanders outside of psychology and psychotherapy, perhaps now more than ever, but I guess it was still a problem back then too. One day I will have to read Aurelius? Meditations in full, although I am somewhat hostile to Stoicism, but there are some good bits.
    September 21 06:55 AM
  • ScuroFantasma Ah that is weird, well hey thanks for letting me know, I will probably avoid it then. I did see he has a new book coming but he seems to be at his worst and most vague on that topic, so I have a feeling I could read the entire thing and not come any closer to understanding what he really thinks about religion.
    September 21 06:16 AM
  • ScuroFantasma Hey man, nice track that actually rocks, I knew I was in for something different as soon as the intro kicked in, and it was right up my alley. Well done to you guys, I will have to check out more of your music soon!
    September 9 12:19 PM
  • Uzumaki Anytime, man; my pleasure!
    September 8 05:14 PM
  • Uzumaki sounded solid, my dude. Vox were good and complimented the instrumentals well. Not bad, not bad at all...
    September 7 11:38 PM
  • bloc Brother this is hype, it's already better than anything on the last LB album. You're doing the vocals and all instruments?
    September 7 09:16 PM
  • kildare no prob on the "late" reply, I'm cool with whenever, if ever. It's all good. And anyway, keeping a close watch on shoutboxes is probably not great for mental health!
    September 7 01:41 AM
  • SteakByrnes Oh hell yea I'll give it a jam later homie!
    September 6 12:20 PM
  • Vercetti Listened to the new song. Sounds good! I also looked at the upcoming album and saw that there's a song called Intergalactic. Is that a cover version or a new song that just happens to have the same title as that other one from the Beastie Boys? However, I'm looking forward to it.
    September 6 10:46 AM
  • kildare Just in case you're interested I finally gave the new Shellac record another go and it paid off better this around. I raised it to a 4.0, more in line with yours. I think it was harder for me to hear Albini the first time because I was in the middle of a Big Black binge, and Shellac is mellower. But Albini's fingerprints are all over it, if a little more diluted from the bass and drum contributions. Great rec
    July 13 06:39 PM
  • Uzumaki Thanks for the heads up, man! You did an excellent job. :)
    February 5 03:53 PM
  • EvoHavok So cool that you did one of those for them too. I'll read it for sure.
    February 5 09:05 AM
  • CalculatingInfinity The London show sold out in a week or two. If you want tickets you'd have to sign up to the DICE waiting list and look at DEG reddit to find resellers.
    February 5 08:59 AM
  • CalculatingInfinity Yeah you're right; the days of UK tours are over for them. But man this s*** trend of just do London I've seen for so many bands. It's so lame, Glasgow/Manchester/London should be the minimum.
    February 4 05:00 PM
  • CalculatingInfinity Oh btw Evo is coming to the Mode shows in London with me, so that'll be wild.
    February 4 04:31 PM
  • CalculatingInfinity You ****ing madlad, congrats. Shall read now (I read the Primus and Faith No More ones too)

  • BitterJalapenoJr DrGonzo, apoloiges for the delay. Just hope it's not too similar to my review.....https://docs.google.com/document/d/19zh00S5SgKN6J4VovuFOqmKX9fD9VqYSeSCuzATuC4g/edit
    September 12 10:20 PM

    September 9 08:22 PM
  • BitterJalapenoJr Thanks very much for sorting! No problem at all - happy to contribute at any time.
    September 1 01:25 PM
  • BitterJalapenoJr Hi DrGonzo, wondering if you could do me a favour and make two minor amendments to my piece on Chat Pile AOTM (apologies as I obviously failed to carry out sufficient proofreading). Could you kindly add a full stop at the end of the second paragraph and also add the word "than" between "rather" and "giving" near the end of the same paragraph. I apologise for the inconvenience!
    September 1 12:35 PM
  • Squiggly Hey DrGonzo any idea of when the July AotM thread will be up or is someone else taking care of it?

    May 17 09:28 AM
  • hangth3dj That's probably come across very disjointed, never realised the shoutbox feature was character limited, but yes - a few lines on Rammstein Zeit.
    May 17 09:27 AM
  • hangth3dj It?s a Rammstein album. If you like Rammstein then chances are you will like this album?probably quite a lot. Yet, despite this, it still manages to craft itself an atmosphere that sets itself slightly apart from their previous work. No doubt helped by the front-loading of Zeit

    October 19 08:26 AM
  • Voivod The Lemmy element is prominent in the song "Hatred". Also this album is the closest thing to Red Harvest that I've been aware of for quite a while.
    October 17 09:21 AM
  • Voivod Personally, vocals remind me of Tiamat's Johan Edlund in Wildhoney which is a befitting feature... As for the album what drew me to it, its that this Kazakh knows his ambience and how to pound his pistons, the noisy sound work, and the minimal tone that surrounds the album. A low 3.4 for me at least.
    October 17 09:16 AM
  • Storm In A Teacup yes thank you. do i email it or?
    October 16 05:22 AM

    February 19 01:24 PM
  • EvoHavok You're welcome. Not sure if they still have that small feature, but a few years ago Remambo would give you 500 yen back if you sent them a message with an unboxing video. I know you like those, haha.
    December 15 07:57 PM
  • CalculatingInfinity If it pops up on Mercari.jp, it will likely go very fast (it's a click and buy, no auction). Treasure Japan will buy items from Mercari quickly, so I recommend using that if it appears on Mercari.
    December 15 07:54 PM
  • CalculatingInfinity Hey. Regarding that seller Evo linked, they have refused all bids from any proxy services. You can try using Remambo to bid on that auction, however, I can not promise it will work. If it does not work, you can wait to see if the item pops up on either Zenmarket or Mercari.jp.
    December 15 07:54 PM
  • EvoHavok Ahh, Zen does that sometimes, not sure why. I actually bought stuff from that seller in the past, no issues. They have almost 7000 positives anyway. You can try Remambo. Same principle, they just take a comission of 500 yen instead of 300. I used both sites, never had issues.https://www.remambo.jp/auction/item/b483900775
    December 15 06:28 PM
  • EvoHavok Regarding shipping, you have to pay the cost to the proxy deposit (inland shipping), then the shipping from the warehouse to your place (you have multiple options). If you have any questions, please ask.
    December 15 01:44 PM
  • EvoHavok When you see the option "Buyout" you can buy the item directly and end the auction without having to place a bid and wait for the auction's end. For items without that option, you will have to pay attention when the auction ends and check if other people also try to bid on your item and if that's the case, you will have to compete with them by paying more until the timer runs out (it gets prolonged if people bid within the last few minutes of the listing) or someone gives up.
    December 15 01:41 PM

  • EvoHavok Hello, Gonzo! What's up? Your best bet would be getting it from Yahoo Auctions through a proxy service, such as ZenMarket. That's how I got mine. Make sure that the seller has pictures, a good description of the item (the proxy site will auto-translate the comments in English) and proper ratings.

  • Gnocchi shi, we thinking about Devild at the same time?
    October 11 09:36 AM
  • xxm I love your Melanie C review. Hope you?re still taking care.
    October 4 04:29 PM
  • Sowing I mistakenly thought your comment about uploading was geared towards the blog. I didn't mean to impose so if you want it removed I can take it out, but I agree that it adds something.
    September 27 11:43 AM
  • Sowing I embedded the audio feature for you. Let me know if you want it placed somewhere else in the article.
    September 27 11:30 AM
  • JesperL thanks so much dude!
    September 26 08:19 PM
  • JesperL hey! dewi poked me to write a blurb for the two people record and i'm def down to do it, should i write it in a doc and shoutbox you the link? i think i can have it done by tonight!
    September 6 08:09 AM
  • Dewinged Haha I reviewed it so don't have much more to say about. Will poke some folks, see if anyone is interested.
    September 5 05:14 AM
  • Dewinged No takers for the 2P blurb yet?
    September 5 04:26 AM
  • xxm Yep, it?s really damn solid stuff for sure.
    August 2 09:26 PM
  • xxm Thanks.
    August 2 05:36 PM
  • xxm I?m just easy to annoy in general these days and despite it?s problems I still love this site but **** do I really ****ing hate people. Anyways, hope you?re doing well enough in this ongoing apocalypse of our hellworld.

  • xxm Hello again. This is going to come across as more than a little venture but damn am I annoyed with several of the front page reviews and the vast majority of the comment threads recently. I mean Sputnik?s always had a troll problem and I do enjoy a couple of the dank reviews on here (even some of the recent ones) but ?reviewers? like JeffreyBigglestein
    August 2 01:07 PM
  • undertakerpt You?re the man to do it! None of their albums have any reviews apart from the EP they released in 2013. Love the band though, the are one of the few nu metal acts where the vocals and lyrics actually sounded sincere
    July 22 01:44 PM
  • undertakerpt Hello! Enjoyed your static-x review! Please review some One Minute Silence, i know you dig them xD
    July 22 12:55 AM
  • Sowing And I hear you about "the way things are" - we dipped in covid cases for a while and thing began to feel semi-normal again, but now cases are spiking again and my state just had 1,000 new cases yesterday. Seems like we're teetering on collapsing into full pandemic mode again, which I just can't deal with considering I finally got some fun summer plans lined up with the family. Hope you stay safe in the UK; last I heard things were improving there too - is that no longer the case?
    July 12 12:39 PM
  • Sowing The intent is to never review again (or only if Brand New/Yellowcard resurfaces) and hang it up at 500, but even I know myself better than to think I'll be able to stay away forever. Hell, I was tempted to do a write-up for the new MMJ (which rules btw), but I resisted. Just trying to alter my daily routine to spend less time at the computer and more time soaking up life. Probably won't work, lol.
    July 12 12:36 PM
  • Sowing I hear that. I technically never left work, which is both a blessing (still have a job!) and a curse (constant exposure!). I'm glad to hear you are at least still working, adjustments aside. Stay safe. Parenthood is going great - the kid is starting to get to a fun age where he actually knows what I'm saying and enjoys playing and running around, so I'm trying to soak it up while I can. The temptation to return to reviewing has been strong, but I wanna force myself to take a break for now.
    July 11 06:00 PM
  • Sowing Things are good, I certainly cannot complain! How are you holding up these days?
    July 8 10:25 PM
  • SlothcoreSam Hey man, I'm not sure I'll have time this weekend. Maybe post a call out on the albums thread.
    June 27 04:29 PM
  • xAshtrayux Thank you for the HEALTH shoutout! I appreciate you remembering about me. Love to read it!
    June 26 04:15 PM
  • Waior how did you come across that icelandia record?
    May 18 03:39 AM
  • Jots nope, didn?t know we had one. maybe academy?
    May 17 01:18 PM
  • Sowing Would be better off asking in the forums, my only guess would be academy or JOTS
    May 17 09:29 AM
  • Sowing Honestly? I had no idea we had an Instagram haha.
    May 17 09:21 AM
  • Pikazilla Hi, sorry for replying so late. I have been swamped with work lately and haven't had time for anything else at all. Apologies.
    May 13 02:45 PM
  • Muppelope Alright, short and sweet and all done. Sent to the sput fb messenger.
    May 10 05:18 AM
  • Muppelope Sure thing, I'll write it up tomorrow. Where should I post it?
    May 9 08:08 AM
  • Muppelope Don't know if you're still looking for someone to do the ulcerate blurb, but I'd be willing. If I'd be the only one writing, I'm not sure I'd be the best choice, as I'm not all that familiar with their other records or them as a band, but if you're just looking for additional material I'm happy to help.
    May 8 09:49 PM
  • Waior cheers mate!
    April 24 07:21 AM
  • garas Thank you for the kind words! I feel motivated, so certainly I'll write more and more reviews. :]
    April 23 02:20 PM
  • TheNotrap Thanks a lot Dr. ;)
    April 23 01:19 PM
  • JohnnyoftheWell will (maybe) make you happy https://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=191429
    April 16 03:21 AM
  • Kompys2000 I saw the article had been posted, that's awesome man! I haven't read it yet but I'll be sure to check it out ASAP!
    April 11 09:07 PM
  • MarsKid Just did. Didn't format into messenger, so I can clarify if need be.
    April 8 06:52 PM
  • MarsKid I've got a write-up ready, where should I send it?
    April 8 06:09 PM
  • Sowing So I asked our highest of authorities and we do not have a high res image. Depending on what you are using it for, would the weekly releases header/banner work? https://www.sputnikmusic.com/blog/2020/03/30/weekly-releases-4-3-2020/
    April 7 12:55 PM
  • Sowing also I'll see about the hi-res pic. might have to ask around .
    April 7 08:18 AM
  • Sowing I hadn't considered that but I like how you did it (out of view so you have to "expand for spoilers".) I think it'll be worth it considering how many artists will see their names!
    April 7 07:30 AM
  • Sowing Love your timely and reliable posts btw. Definitely the best FB manager we've had.
    April 6 11:21 PM
  • Sowing Thoughts on tagging artists on the decade posts? There might be a tag limit but I'm certain any artist would be honored to be included as long as they're aware of it.
    April 6 10:07 PM
  • MarsKid Certainly. Should be enough time.
    April 6 03:03 PM
  • MarsKid I'd be worried in the sense that I'm not very well-versed in the genre, but I could probably write something for it if someone more experienced is unavailable. When would you need it by?
    April 6 01:58 PM
  • DoofDoof thanks for the offer, not sure I can do that one justice because as much as I love the album its really out of my rotation right now
