  • Aiwaz Check out any of those books?
    November 12 07:49 PM
  • Aiwaz I don't know about e-books, I buy everything on eBay. Some really old rare first prints. The only problem is it's a very expensive hobby. lol
    November 9 07:53 AM
  • Aiwaz Crowley is very hard to understand FYI. I would start with The Tree of Life by Israel Regardie. Many books by that name only his is the "one". It is very informative.
    November 8 11:20 PM
  • Aiwaz Also check out The Secret Doctrine by Helena Blavatsky. I have a early 1900's copy of it in 3 books. It smells good.
    November 8 11:15 PM
  • Aiwaz 777 and other Qabalisric Writings of Aleister Crowely, The Equinox, The Book of Thoth (helps to have the tarot deck), Magick Without Tears, The Tree Of Life by Israel Regardie.

    October 8 08:35 PM
  • Frippertronics i'd say the label is mostly restricted to skylarking perhaps
    October 8 11:11 AM
  • Frippertronics will du: XTC - Skylarking, Todd Rundgren - Todd (who is involved w/ skylarking cuz he produced it), Laurie Anderson - Big Science (lou reed's wife, not exactly like the other two i rec'd but she wrote O Superman and that's all that matters to me)
    October 8 11:03 AM
  • Frippertronics Of course it is, fits right in

    July 31 04:08 PM
  • Frippertronics yo check my ratings, s.f. sorrow is already there my dude
    July 28 01:55 AM
  • zakalwe Now that is a lovely tune. Creosotes vox twang the emotions good and proper. Cheers dude I hadn't heard it before, love it.
    July 21 09:56 AM
  • TheSpaceMan on yeah definitely 90s, im a sucker for those 90s vibes. one of my favorite trip hop singles outside the big 4. something very human about its structure//lyrics//singing. i can see post-punk inspiration in the artwork. tbh post-punk as a movement/style is something so broad i dont really have a distinct association with it. well that and ive barely dug into it.
    July 15 01:12 AM
  • TheSpaceMan i agree trip-hop is a leaf off the downtempo stem. that song was great too! not as wowing as the last one but more interesting for sure. shes got a style. you ever hear this one? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Bwy2XSbk3Q beautiful song.
    July 15 12:52 AM
  • TheSpaceMan d00d that song was fantastic, what a build. gotta look into this man. in regards to your first comment, you mean massive attack, portishead, tricky and shadow?
    July 15 12:02 AM
  • TheSpaceMan hey would you happen to have any downtempo recs up your sleeve?
    July 14 11:29 PM
  • JamieTwort lol nice.
    July 9 05:21 AM
  • Atari glad to hear you're doing good overall (sorry this is like a 3 week late reply) haha. u still play smash? I moved on from the new Zelda a few weeks ago and reliving my childhood rn with the crash bandicoot remake :]
    July 7 10:46 PM
  • SandwichBubble I only really hate Feelin Kinda Free. The rest is pretty good
    July 2 11:08 PM
  • theBoneyKing Thanks, your description in the National thread was very enlightening. I had always seen garage rock more as an aesthetic than a true genre.
    July 1 11:04 PM
  • TheSpaceMan ... I love 80s neo-psych a lot but have trouble finding it cause sput has no tag for it ): that being said I'm downloading starfish right now and will give it a listen with a balance of high hopes and low expectations
    June 30 07:41 PM
  • TheSpaceMan hey cyg! I actually gave Heyday (the album that comes directly before this) a few listens a while back, rec'd because of its similarities to other 80s post punk I dig. I wasn't moved by it but i wasnt disappointing either, it just never really stuck. i just listened to the song you linked and i think its way ahead of anything off Heyday, esp that guitar. I can relate to your production gripe cause I felt the same way about heyday and its even more artificial-sugar sounding on this but...
    June 30 07:39 PM
  • Atari so what's new old pal? hope life's treating u well
    June 15 08:36 PM
  • Conmaniac thx my dude i'll actually give them a listen hopefully tonight!
    June 5 08:29 PM
  • Ryus the t/t on "shake some action" is such a classic. i just wish they toned down the bluesy stuff and focused more on just power pop
    May 14 09:20 PM
  • TheSpaceMan never really gave it thought but yeah psych was like a secondary big-bang of genres, only natural given how ambiguous it is esp progressing after the OG movement. silver apples were a milestone too! didnt know you dig dug. they are one of those bands that i have inflated appreciation for because of the historic context, influence etc. sounds ahead of its time but also vry dated but thats the novelty. oh and i'm gonna be peeping the rest of that quetzalcoatl album soon
    May 12 01:25 AM
  • TheSpaceMan also please please always hit me with those recs cuz my shoutbox is a public space and tbh you walk that perfect line of recing me stuff you wanna talk about and stuff you feel is catered to me which is super cool and always makes me more eager to peep (:
    May 10 11:59 PM
  • TheSpaceMan thats an interesting thought... esp considering the subject matter (you might of been implying that connection) but yeah i see what you mean. its almost stepping to the side of the genre and preaching (warning?) the truth of his personal experience and in doing so taking the opposite route of conventional psych music, both lyrically and stylistically. maybe i misread what you said but damn thats either intentionally or accidentally brilliant of him
    May 10 11:57 PM
  • TheSpaceMan some heavy stuff, very mesmerizing. i think his delivery is the strongest part of the whole thing, cause i agree the lyrics are a bit much but like it sorta plays into itself being so cliche dramatic and blunt. its eerie how it doesnt have any closure either, it sorta just fades in an instance after dumping such broken declarations
    May 10 02:48 AM
  • AaroN911 I belee dat that dude is cancer
    April 27 10:46 AM
  • AaroN911 Onision has an album what the actual ****?
    April 27 01:42 AM
  • SandwichBubble "Indie" genres are hard to pin down, due to the fact that they take influence from so many different facets of music. While there is tinges of funk in this track here (good song btw), it's a highly gentrified version of it. Reminds me kinda of that "easy-listening funk" that was so very popular. The influence is definitely there, just not prominent enough to be classed as funk really. It's too far removed from funk. As for subgenres, maybe lounge? Hope that helps in any way :)

    April 7 06:35 PM
  • Kurisu hey dude how are things? its mall if u remember
    April 7 11:46 AM
  • TheSpaceMan hahaha ruthless (but validated). from my experience its a lifeless and overindulging genre, and this is coming from a psych/prog fan! it relies on subtleties that are glorified rather than justified
    April 7 12:24 AM
  • TheSpaceMan Oh sweet Im gonna plan on checking both soon, I'm not big on post rock but the origin story of a genre is always worth checking
    April 5 03:22 PM
  • SandwichBubble The opening does have a few elements of new age, which is just subset of ambient music really. Popol Vuh's Hosianna Mantra has a similar style to it, where it's ambient with a more rock-centric composition. I would say the same for Talk Talk's song here. Although, more accurately, I would say Talk Talk is post rock, psych, or progressive moreso than new age. Summarized: no, I wouldn't really say new age, but I do hear a twinge of ambient in there. | Signed, Sputnik's Resident New Age Fan
    April 5 08:14 AM

    April 3 12:43 AM
  • AngryLittleAlchemist 20 point scale? thanks. Also I get you. IDK it's like with 90's albums i find most of them are just outdated or dont shtick at all.
    April 2 11:50 PM
  • AngryLittleAlchemist A) are my ratings good? and B ) Why do you have perfect from now on as a 3 ; (

    February 1 11:47 PM
  • TheSpaceMan yup nailed it. its modest and doesnt flex its chops but accomplishes plenty. just loaded up the link and i was like "wait..." took me a second lmao is that the original??
    February 1 09:45 PM
  • TheSpaceMan loving the album you tipped me, fresh to listen to everytime, works at that level where you focus a bit more than if it were ambient/background noise but it'll be awhile before I can discern where I am, only adds to its novelty... perfect for just filling an empty room
    February 1 01:24 AM

    January 9 01:30 AM
  • Mystletainn if you were thinking i left the site or something then no, i couldn't be bothered to come on or listen to music the past couple months and i guess this place was a bit too hectic but i think i'm starting up again. I don't see myself not looking for new music for a long time so as long as i'm listening to music i'll still be using the site.
    January 6 05:21 PM
  • Mystletainn I'm not sure why you think I'm not well but I appreciate the posi sentiment :) hope you are doing well too and had nice holidays.

  • StarlessCore I gotta spin that one again. most people seem to think monster is close to ds2s quality but idk didn't think so
    December 28 07:00 PM
  • StarlessCore some of it is beyond bad and some of it is lit. ds2 is really good in spots, can't find a future release that's close
    December 28 06:50 PM
  • StarlessCore can't find much within that sect of rap that I wholly enjoy besides some of thuggers releases
    December 28 06:46 PM
  • StarlessCore ds2 bangs upon a full listen but yea the majority of his songs are pretty bad

    November 12 05:07 PM
  • adr sry for not responding, but i was on my phone and just went straight to bed after my last post in that trainwreck of a thread, you've missed just a lot of stupid s***, honestly just read Jac's comments it sums up the whole situation quite well lol.
    November 7 06:16 AM
  • DoofusWainwright Ah sorry forgot my dig is the Lisa Germano now lol. She reminds me of a female version of Eels, similar approach to song writing. Has a darkness to her style.
    November 7 02:59 AM
  • DoofusWainwright You've never listened to Lambchop? They're usually mellow Americana meets easy listening featuring near spoken word vocals with eccentric lyrics. This album they go electronic so the atmosphere is similar but there are programmed beats and the vocals have been treated and a lot sound like auto tune. Strangely the auto tune sound blends really well and the overall sound ends up very unique.
    November 7 02:50 AM
  • Havey do you dig any janet jackson?
    November 6 03:13 PM
  • Havey mexican bandits/stagnant pool/preacher in new england is one of the best three track runs i know of :)

  • dimeadozenmetalhead6 suhh
    October 26 04:52 PM
  • TheSpaceMan nah not ironic at all, and i feel you about a 2.5 not being bad, 100% agree. i just don't know if i've fully defined what a 2.5 is to me but i know it if i hear it. it just seems odd to call a super unique and experimental album 'average' just because you weren't like "oh wow this is rly good". but again i'm being way too hung up on this lol but it starts to beg the question if ratings are more to organize your thoughts or more to provide your measure of music to others
    October 1 06:21 PM
  • TheSpaceMan Idk it gets ugly when you try to create a strict system for rating... not in terms of being strict with handing out higher ratings but just trying to be all text book about it ya know? So ur right it should just come down to what it evokes in you and just throw it somethin that feels appropiate. More and more tho I'm trying to be conservative with high scores ca use inflated avgs **** up reviews imo, ppl won't give anything less than a 4 time it seems
    October 1 09:13 AM
  • TheSpaceMan Yea that makes a lot of sense, although it naturally factors into my ratings I never thought of the consistency being key in differentiating between 2.5 and 3, but that's a good way to look at it. I get what you mean about 2.5 not being a bad score cause it certainly isn't, but it sorta implies it's "less than good" to me if that makes sense... not bad, but not good ie. average
    October 1 09:10 AM
  • TheSpaceMan yo dude question for ya, 2.5 is labeled avg on this site but a 3 is considered good... do you find that music has to be above average to be at the very least good? its something i've been thinking about lately for whatever reason and wanna hear your thoughts since youre pretty reserved with your ratings compared to a lot of users
    September 30 02:45 PM
  • Gwyn. Is that Danny Brown rating legit? I've never actually given him a shot (I've listened to ac ouple of songs from X3 but that's it) and I was kinda thinking about giving the new album a shot

  • Keyblade yea man for sure, they really miss the point and are annoying as hell. not to mention they detract from the causes they're trying to help. but I feel like ppl who base their whole politics on opposing them when there are so many bigger problems than overzealous sjw's kinda tell on themselves and how they really feel about those issues

  • LambsBread The truest statement i've ever heard is "a thousand step journey begins with one step". You may think 21 is old to not know about the stock market. In reality, if you start reading up on the history of the stock market, keeping a TRULY open mind (hardest part) and read about various investment strategies... I can guarantee you will make succeed if you actually do that. Anyone can learn history, it's just a matter of diving into it and caring enough to continue reading.
    July 15 04:33 AM
  • LambsBread How old are you / How much education do you have?
    July 14 08:01 PM
  • LambsBread I'm making it more complicated than it is. You simply are buying a small % of the company. The more stocks you buy, the more you are invested in that company. If it does well, you make money, if it fails, you will lose the money you invested.
    July 14 07:55 PM
  • LambsBread sorry I meant, if you had 100 Nintendo stocks a few weeks ago, you paid $1500 and increased $1500 to $3000.You get physical cash (100 dollar bills) by selling your stocks. So if you bought $1500, and sell for two weeks later after company did will for $3000, you make a $1500 profit.
    July 14 07:48 PM
  • LambsBread 1 Nintendo stock is currently 30 dollars. It was just 15 dollars a few weeks ago. So if you had 100 stocks in Nintendo a few weeks ago (costs 150 dollars), you just increased your money from $150 to 300 dollars.
    July 14 07:45 PM
  • LambsBread You basically are buying a tiny % of the company. You are giving the business money to invest, and they reward you by giving you a share of the profits (if there are any, you can also lose money if they screw up). Buying 1 stock is like buying .00001% of the company for Nintendo. Whoever owns a majority of the stocks is the official owner/decision maker of the company.
    July 14 07:40 PM
  • LambsBread Yeah, I invested 90% of all my spare money and got my family to invest as well haha, that game is revolutionary.
