  • Venpts16 I remember Burnt Offerings being a bit of a grower for me, too. Some of the songs (Creator Failure, Burning Oasis) didn't click on my first few listens, though I did love a few songs immediately. I'm glad that you enjoyed this album, and I hope you like the other albums by Iced Earth as well (providing you decide to look into their material further).

  • Venpts16 As for Iced Earth, they are very different. They are a blend of thrash and power metal, though their earliest albums are extremely thrashy. I would suggest that you should start with Night of the Stormrider or Burnt Offerings, two personal favorites of mine. Both are on the heavier side of power metal, and are very complex in comparison to other power metal bands. Their later albums are a bit more power metal-like, but I suggest starting with those two because of your own love for thrash metal.

  • Venpts16 Two power metal bands that you will probably love are Helloween and Iced Earth. The former is considered to be the band that popularized the genre, and their first three albums are considered legendary. If you had to start with any of their albums, you should listen to Keeper of the Seven Keys Part 1. Though I only have it at a 4, it is both melodic and heavy, and will probably keep you interested during its (rather short) duration.

  • BodomThrashMachine Heh another good review mate. Honestly I'm not a fan of Overkill. The vocals just kill it for me completely, I guess I can't stand this kind of high pitch but clean type of vox sometimes. That's also why I'm not a fan of Power Metal, but anyway. Stay thrash \m/

  • Voivod One last thing, my contrib status was pretty unexpected for me, since I tend to review obscure stuff most of the time. Aside from that, the contrib status is cool but it is not everything. I mean, I would do precisely the same conduct in here, even if I wasn't contrib. Furthermore, there are at least 20-30 people in here who write better reviews than myself (note: I'm not a native english speaker) and are not contribs and that goes to the part where there's no fixed recipe in becoming a contrib.

  • Voivod Saw your comment in the Sacred Reich about how one becomes a contrib reviewer... Well there is no fixed recipe, from what I reckon. I became contrib in October 2011, having written 36 reviews. I had applied for contrib in Christmas 2010. But as I said, there is no recipe, there are contribs who have 24 reviews, there are others who have near 200. The main attribute is writing reviews and then there is the impact of these reviews to the site and the people who are already staff, I guess.

  • ZedO well, so glad to hear that, you obviously made a right choice reviewing bands like Overkill, Testament, and Annihilator (those bands' popularity obviously were overshadowed by big-four of thrash, but not their music quality), good job, Drew!

  • ZedO Hello man, I enjoy your reviews, really, it's because you review thrash metal stuffs (mostly), lol. If I may request, I see many classic stuffs of Germany Teutonic thrash still don't have review yet (such as Destruction (their debut), Holy Moses, Paradox, Angel Dust, etc), and yes as thrash metal fan I will be glad seeing those stuffs reviewed. Only if you are interested, man, but I hope you will consider to add em in your "next review list", btw your user-name does fit your musical taste ;]

  • BodomThrashMachine Riff is just the absolute upper extreme of elitism... for the sake of being elitist. lol. Just never take him seriously and you'll be fine. Btw love your reviews! Stay thrash bro \m/
