| Dedes Goofy name aside you ever jam Borknagar? New album is uhhh p good but True North sweet lord is a banger. The season may have dissipated here (it's actually super pleasant out??) but their adoration for the north and winter is like, wholesome?? and not tryhard in the way a lot of bm is???
| Dedes I already hand off my respect to you, I need to be physically moving especially after being at a deli for 5 years, that's why I go mental when the press is down for like 3 hours cause of folder problems or web guide issues or w/e. Sitting at an office job and having to deal with constant organization and things that tbh i'd probably have a harder time understanding would uhh get to me lmao, I hope u dig your job tho! You've got that ramped up 300IQ so I trust you'll progress fast as well.
| Dedes Tis all good my dude, work is tough but imo it helps to occupy the mind. I started bundling at a printing press at almost 17$ an hour nightshift, only 6 weeks in and i'm gonna get roll tender position soon which takes most people a few years even to get up to so i'm stoked and nervous, it's an easy job with great potential to royally **** the press lmao. Whatchu do if I might ask? Also ty! I'm stoked about contrib but now I have it and i'm like hm, I guess nothing is truly different lol
| Dedes Yo dawg hyd new Night Verses absolutely wrecks haven't seen ya in a minute lol
| JesperL hi! of course, i know that i'm not the only one who would love to read a new clavier review (esp if it's for an album that should be good based on the singles)!
| Frivolous pretty much the same. just writing music and writing words, really
| Frivolous hey, hope you're doing alright. been a minute so i thought i'd check in
| Jay78 Dear Claire,Would you have some time for a review of the E.P. of my friends:https://1q94.bandcamp.com/album/twelve-monkeys-e-pThanks in advance!Best tropical regards!
| JustJoe. i am for now until next time *heart emoji*
| JustJoe. hi claire i have nothing to report but it?s the future as of my last post so hope you are well
| parksungjoon hello ms staff you might find something interesting on this list :]https://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=190800
| Get Low By any chance, is your name on here a reference to Clare Quilty, the character from Lolita?
| MiloRuggles That doesn't sound too taxing on my bohemian lifestyle! Sounds like a sensible writing challenge, really. What sort of trials await me in the application process? Whose rings do I have to kiss?
| MiloRuggles I must admit, I've never been labelled as politically astute haha. Thanks, I'll quickly take you up on your offer to take on questions. What's the general idea? I have to do x amount of reviews in y time? I get assigned an upcoming release and have to have a review in on time? Is there anything involved but reviewing? tytytytyty
| MiloRuggles Ayy, I appreciate ya!I'd have to first figure out what's involved and expected of me in that process, and then spend some time considering haha. Glad you like my writing though! Feedback really keeps me coming back, especially from writers I enjoy
| Frippertronics the only major gripe i do have is the three interludes add nothing to the album
| Frippertronics ok after i actually finished it: the flutes were a bit worrying but i think it got more interesting once they got away from it. I do think it petered out halfway through. Substantially better than The Ark Work though
| Frippertronics new liturgy is good?? or am i in the twilight zone right now
| JustJoe. I can get behind that. Also feel free to let me know when things turn around for the better. I?ll be looking forward to it.
| JustJoe. I?ve been very strangely all over the place yet somehow still little to nothing to report. Hanging in there though. How about you, Claire?
| hogan900 Glad u dug it! Like you said this year has been amazing for skramz
| hogan900 Check Elle?s ... it?s pretty wonderful stuff, there is even a song that?s reminiscent of the ending of For Meg which is whack.
| hogan900 That Frail Body?s album is crazy
| Sowing Nice to see more love for Patrick Watson. That record is unexpectedly brilliant.
| JohnnyoftheWell Ah, that figures! Love the mess personally it is a lot haha. Figures you'd be more into slickness from how much you dig the new Seizures ;]
| JohnnyoftheWell Not to snoop, but I finally checked Kidcrash out and assumed within about 2 mins of the first track that they'd be in your 5s somewhere, but no ratings :O Idk if I'm getting things mixed, but I don't think I've heard a band I've ever associated more strongly with your vibe aha - tell me I'm wrong!
| franconia sorry, i've been wanting to transfer my reviews from RYM and Eject Music and really haven't looked at the front page
| wacknizzle Has anyone on heavyblogisheavy heard our album? I tried to email them about doing a review for us.
| cvlts 5 on new Seizures? That some trolly placemarker or staff privilege sput should be excite about?
| kris. nm just chillin..... wanted to say hey.....
| Gnocchi I feel you'd dig it. It's got this kinda brooding atmosphere that carries some actual emotion with it. It's only 21 minutes so it's doesn't drag.
| Gnocchi Sup Claire, have you had a listen to the new The Human Condition EP?
| iglu Ooohhh alrighty, I'll check it out
| Jots if you message the Sput FB then i can see your handle and then add you to admin
| ian b thank you so much!! yeah i mean a lot has happened, but rather than basking in my past, i figured it would be better to wait, and start a new account when i was ready. so it took me a lil bit longer than expected, but i hope to be writing reviews at least half of the pace i was reviewing. also wow a lot really has happened here lol, but (super) late congrats on becoming staff!!!
| JayEnder Way cool! Sure sounds like it was a super awesome time. Sleeplessness is slowly but surely becoming my favorite.
| JayEnder Oh god the unironic Black Veil Brides 5 rater himself lmao. Dudes a wackjob but I kinda miss having him around ngl... Funny that Jonny brought him up haha. And ah that's alright I do remember you mentioning in the thread that they played Sleeplessness and Clairvoyant back to back though (still jealous) so I hope you tore up the pit to those.
| JayEnder Hey! I?m stoked you enjoyed the State Faults show. Did you get the opportunity to talk to the band at all? Also, did they play Olive Tree? .-. I?d do anything to hear that song live haha.
| JayEnder I can definitely see the Plini comparison on the new one. Some Handmade Cities vibes for sure haha. Agreed that the new one is better too, I thought Homey was a bit too bubbly and cute for my liking. S/T has everything that makes the band good.
| Sowing I went through and attributed any blog pieces you completed as a contributor to your staff WP account (as opposed to the generic "staff" account). You can review these pieces by clicking on the blog tab at the top of your profile. If there are any you did that I'm missing, please do me the favor of linking me to it/them so that I can credit you properly. Thanks!
| Sowing No worries we'll get it straightened out!
| Pon Nice tag you got there
| Dewinged Thanks Claire! And congratulations to you too!
| supremejelly Random since you might give a semblance of s***, but I got that drum cover of Vice Waves down (not recorded though) and thought a cooler idea would be a medley of drum parts from the album. I'll lyk if that goes anywhere, right now I'm trying to figure out parts that would mesh well together.
| neekafat nice nice! I've still slowly been trying to get more into extreme metal lol, the three bands I've enjoyed most are probably Sigh, Dissection, and Behemoth
| Sowing it'sd now, thanks for catching that
| neekafat Good, just exhausted from work even though I'm technically on break haha! How've you been?
| naughtcturnal sorry it took me a while but I finally got around to reading the Entheos interview. It was great and I really like how you went in-depth about the themes (aesthetic, concept, lyrics). It really helps to have a better understanding of their work. Great, great job and it was a great read
| naughtcturnal Yesss!!!! I would really be interested in reading that. Care to share a link? Thanks!!
| naughtcturnal 1 semester!! Shucks I can't even make it finally on the 21st because i wasnt able to get the day off. Let me know how it was. And I think it's awesome that you interviewed Basalte for the site. They have come such a long way since I saw them live for the first time in a shotty bar in a village close to where I live when they were still a 3-piece. They were always really tight.
| naughtcturnal Nice!! Did you go to Déréliction Stellaire a few years back?
| naughtcturnal So so. I am up to date with Existe because 2 of the dudes are pretty much the closest friends that I have. But I know a couple of people from the scene and have seen Basalte and Entheos a few times. But I am from the south shore and don't go to too many shows anymore. Might try to go to the Existe one on the 21st if I can get the day off. Will see.
| naughtcturnal Hi!! Yeah, it's me. Was wondering if their album would actually be approved because Cyril was having a super hard time putting it up for pre-order on bandcamp haha
| SitarHero Cool cool, how should I send you the link?
| SitarHero Hey Claire, I'm glad you like the singles Four Stroke Baron put out. I befriended those guys some time back and they sent me an advance copy of the album to review for Sput. I also told them I'd forward it to any Staff or Contribs who are interested in reviewing it. Are you interested?
| Papa Universe I imagine a Claire-core hip-hop would be something of the sort: https://theskulleclipses.bandcamp.com/album/the-skull-eclipses
| Jom Sorry, should have probably shouted at you to let you know the changes are all square based off your messages. Let me know if I misunderstood what you meant. Thanks!
| verdant ....are you an actual gIRL?? on Sputnik?? wow
| supremejelly I know it's nitpicky but I really hate the "chip on your shoulder" chorus in Elucidation, so I often skip that one even if the verse is chill
| supremejelly Hells yeah, that album has such an eerie/suffocating sound all the way through even if some vocals parts sound slightly awkward. Strange Graves is a gem. LYE will always be a special album even if it's sort of a mess. Phoenix 1
| supremejelly Haha well the bongos make the song, so I'd be able to live with that. Will be sure to share the vid man, as long as my new neighbors don't kill me
| supremejelly I started learning Vice immediately when the 3-song EP came out, but if I had waited for the full album I probably would've learned No Moon first. The parts after 3:25 sound so much fun and the drums really drive it. Love what he's doing with the snare
| supremejelly But before that, I ended up starting to write the sheet music for the groovy bass drum part since I wanted to make sure I nailed the whole thing. Drumming is too good on that album to half-ass. I just moved into a new apartment with concrete floors so I'm hoping I can play, and eventually make a video covering the song.
| supremejelly hey thanks for checking! it was going pretty well until my neighbors complained about my drumming.. I got an electronic kit for my apartment, assuming they'd be quiet enough, which they were until I realized hitting the kick drum was making vibrations travel to my neighbors 2 floors below. Worst part is they complained when I finally got that off-time section down (the one starting at 2:08)
| impoppy feel free to pop your head in occasionally, literally no obligation to be there all the time.
| Jom People love looking at pretty photographs to break up the text. The challenge with the version of Wordpress we use is that whatever we see in edit mode does not parallel with published mode (e.g. I tried to wrap text around some of the images - what looked awesome in edit mode looked like a dumpster fire in published mode). I wanted to use more but didn't want to catch any flak if the original photographs didn't have an attribution.
| Jom I tried to make it read like a flowing conversation, so hope you don't mind. Real nice job with it. He seems like a good bloke and I'll give the bandcamp a spin eventually once I catch up on my back-log of albums. Cheers!
| smaug74 hey bud! thx for inviting me:)
| DarkNoctus nice to meet you! thank you for checking my album out!
| Gnocchi I feel like I need to read a new Clav review : ]
| Dewinged Started pretty good then started to draaaaggggg. It might be cause I jammed it after lunch doing work so it got pretty steep. I was falling asleep in between all the djenting. Anyway, looking forward to read your thoughts on it ;)
| Dewinged Yo Claire, just saw your soundoff on the Aviations album, are you planning to review it at some point?
| Gnocchi Only cause if you create links it generates more visits from outside sources. Including those you write about. Something to consider
| Gnocchi You know how to use B.B. code yeah?
| TheSpirit hey! i meant to when it first happened, but i never congratulated you on the promotion. definitely well-deserved and it's great to have you as a contributor. really dig more poetic quality your reviews seem to have.
| Gnocchi They should just ?staff? you haha
| Sniff All cred goes to teamster who has a fine nose for sniffing out great jams
| Frippertronics I mean, a 3.6 isn't bad for a first listen although since i'm digging the new Sumac, Oceanic will probably be on repeat as well.
| Frippertronics I mean, I like Kayo Dot, so i think i'll come around in due time
| Chamberbelain Very kind words, thank you. Congratulations to you too :)
| Rigma grats fren! well deserved
| Koris Thanks! And congrats on joining the team too... you've been one of my favorite reviewers for a while, so I'm glad you got picked
| ScuroFantasma Proper congrats on contrib, knew you could do it (:
| Sowing hang tight too - waiting to hear from the infinitely wise Jom on this.
| Sowing Oddly enough I'm not sure. Weird, right? I lost access to it when I became emeritus for a year and I guess never got re-added, even though I can view every other forum on the site. Anyway, I would inquire with any of the current contribs as they should be able to link you to it.
| Sowing Congratulations! Please shout me if you have any questions about being a contributor or need anything.
| Papa Universe Didn't you write a review for Ylva - Meta? Where did it go?
| borealice vocals are hit or miss for people, but I figure you wouldn't mind a higher range since you listen to this stuff anyway
| borealice ah, closest thing to prog i've heard all year haha. I think you would enjoy the guitar interplay.
| borealice have you heard the new kairon;irse album?
| neekafat It's absolutely no problem, thank you for reaching out like you did (: Yeah, he certainly is but he's my self-proclaimed nemesis so I wouldn't rule him out yet... And I certainly agree. My opening was meant to be a somewhat ironic jab at the perceived need for objectivity, but it was genuine to a certain extent so I definitely understand the reaction
| neekafat Also just made a point of reading some of your reviews (I know of your reputation as a critic here but I have a nasty habit of not reading many reviews unless I'm directly interested in the material) and your compliment is exponentially greater now. You're one of the most insanely (in a good way, a great way) stylized writers I've seen on here
| neekafat Thank you, that really means a lot! I was a bit worried about it because of how personal it was but I've just come to accept it as a natural part of my writing. And of course, I'm used to it, it's probably butcher messing with me or something haha
| Sniff That Ylva album really isn't a joke
| Papa Universe http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=178037 This is important!
| Papa Universe First) clavier? You too? Second) Deadly temporarily left the site, so it should be going up without him.
| Papa Universe Claire, get your beautifully worded opinions into Emo Crown already! My pedantic nerves are about to have a proverbial seizure due to lack of eyeliner-induced whines.
| AsleepInTheBack Don't worry about it, it's been a relaxed comp. Just appeasing unique.
| AsleepInTheBack Yo friendo, any headway on the latest round of the emo comp? I understand it has kind of ground to a halt but yeah, as and when you can that'd be great (:
| artiswar Because I was in discord for a couple of days and I remember you talking about art a lot. I've actually burned bridges with most of my art friends so I'm digging kind of deep, haha. It's actually less of an EP and more demos that will end up re-recorded on an album. I just sort of want to release them to get some general feedback. So I'm not looking to commission an extravagant oil painting or anything, just something clean and simple maybe.
| artiswar hey Claire, would you be interested in doing an album cover for an EP of mine?
| AsleepInTheBack No worries, I feel you, just started back up with uni myself. No rush, but just a reminder
| AsleepInTheBack Emo comp Round 3 results are in, and pt 4 is live: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?listid=176890
| AsleepInTheBack Looks like deadly won't be done until Monday evening, so you should be good to join in if you could get it done for then or the day after. Otherwise just hop in for the round after
| Papa Universe Greetings, fellow Sputnik, I do not want to seem intrusive or begging (although heck, that's exactly what I am at this moment), but there is a competition similar to the tacos N stuff one, in which you have to submit the best songs from terrible artists and the thingie needs more people. Please do consider comtributing. Much obliged.http://www.sputnikmusic.com/list.php?mode=1
| tacos n stuff hey man, rec me something in the 2nd round on the rec competition thing!
| 50iL That Gospel 5 makes me oh-so happy :D
| butcherboy cheers, Claire.. you'll get them at the end of the year..
| JS19 Anytime dude - if you're still thinking along Chon lines my new dig is name your price and also really fun: https://vasa.bandcamp.com/album/colours. Any math-y recs for me? Always open for suggestins
| BlushfulHippocrene No problem at all, and no need to thank me. I appreciate you and a few other users who've become fairly prolific recently, it'd be really neat to see you guys improve even further. It's good for the site and the other writers IMO. :] And of course I enjoy it a lot.
| verdant thanks so much, claire!! yours are great too!!you should check out my latest one if only just to listen to the album itself ") it's by a sputnik user and it's incredible
| BlushfulHippocrene 100% understand. I have a couple reviews posted on an old account from when I was 15, and I regret them. Glad you're finally confident enough to be posting them, though. :)
| BlushfulHippocrene Really into your writing, friend. What inspired you start posting reviews so suddenly? Noticed you've been part of the site for a while now. :]
| Cygnatti you have really good ratings, sir
