  • Penlord I haven't listened to that much weather report honestly, but I freaking love heavy weather and black market, I thought mr. gone would be good but wayne shorter and co disappointed. It's all good for lateness man, I don't frequent here often but I like your taste, I'm a definite jazz fusion fan.
    October 12 07:30 AM
  • Penlord man just listened to mr. Gone for the first time and your 1.5 might be justified, after Heavy Weather I don't know how they got so boring

  • GnarlyShillelagh yo hernan, how goes it bredda? saw in your knxwledge review that you've been listening to a bunch of instrumental hip hop this year. anything you can recommend me? jazzy type stuff would be preferred but really down with anything and everything

  • Jom What I've learned is that Firefox will not cause the line breaks when editing. With Chrome, you will get the weird spacing, but if you zoom out (by a lot) so that everything fits on one line, it will wrap-around just fine. I don't have Macs anywhere so I'm not sure if it's different, but I reckon it depends on the browser/YMMV sorta deal.

  • ThrashTillDeath94 The NeO review was admittedly not my best and was rushed. My new Enslaved review is a bit better. Btw congrats on making staff (long overdue)
    March 12 04:38 PM
  • ThrashTillDeath94 I wondered where you went. Whats up Paperback!

  • PappyMason Yo man, since you're into Madlib, have you heard that album he did with Ivan "Mamao" Conti? Its called 'Sujinho', recorded under the artist name of Jackson Conti. It's full of samba and Latin rhythms. Proper summer vibes!
    December 18 09:09 PM
  • Aids I have it downloaded but am scared to listen. They're one of my favourite favourite FAVOURITE groups, but I have little faith in the album. I thought the singles were far and away the worst tracks they've ever released. I expect it to be the single biggest disappointment of the year for me : (

  • klap hahaha mickey is shadily one of the best characters. always makes me laugh
    October 17 02:39 AM
  • klap those were pretty much my two favorite main characters so it was sad, but given the abbreviated season it had to be done. plus i think it was pretty much the perfect send-off for both of them. honestly van alden's material has been hilarious this season, always my favorite scenes. originally i was so-so on nucky's origin but i think it's really starting to come together and connect with the season's themes. the only thing i'm bummed out about is historically we know who lives lol
    October 16 08:29 PM
  • klap this season of boardwalk empire tho
    October 13 07:13 AM
  • rockandmetaljunkie Hey man, you wanted to know about how's my recent life has been. Well, right now i'm on my second semester, studying in the marine academy and I've just finished my second tutorial trip as an A class trainee. Now, I have two semesters ahead of me and one more tutorial trip that will follow at the end of the school period. In order to be able to travel again as a B Class trainee, I must pass the required subjects.
    October 9 11:23 PM
  • ExplosiveOranges I liked it a lot more than Black Masses. So much so that I wrote a review for it, haha.
    October 9 11:17 PM
  • ExplosiveOranges Hey dude, what'd you think of the new Electric Wizard album?
    October 6 02:24 AM
  • rockandmetaljunkie How do you anticipate Floyd's new album ?
    October 5 02:10 PM
  • rockandmetaljunkie Have you finished school ?
    October 5 02:10 PM
  • Vats Cool! You could also check this out, this will probably polarize your opinion in some way, it's Gilbert's cover of Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir":https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdviI2Ic6PMAlso, I play in a prog band called Rainburn; we're going to release our debut EP soon and I was wondering if you could tell me how to go about getting it reviewed on here; would be especially nice if someone like you could do it 'cos I love your reviews. Please let me know. Cheers and have a great weekend!
    October 5 12:48 PM
  • rockandmetaljunkie Good, I'm glad to know that you still love their work.
    October 5 12:06 PM
  • rockandmetaljunkie Electric Wizard's new album is on the same vein with the previous 3 albums. Don't expect to hear the band of the first 3 Lp's. EW has changed their direction and they play a different kind of music right now. They have adopted elements of shock rock and they try to write music that would be candidate for a soundtrack in a b-rate horror movie. But some elements of their music (like the heavy fuzzy riffs and the psychedelic atmosphere) that you loved on their first 3 records are still there.
    October 5 01:59 AM
  • rockandmetaljunkie What's up man, it's been a while
    October 2 05:18 PM
  • Vats My favourite Kevin Gilbert album is 'The Shaming of the True', which was released posthumously. That is a good starting point, I think. There's also 'Toy Matinee Live', which was the first thing I heard by him...it has a killer cover of Elton John's 'Funeral for a Friend'. Let me know what you think of his music, I'd be very interested :)
    October 2 05:15 AM
  • Vats Hey Hernan,Very nice review of "The Raven That Refused to Sing". I'm a huge fan of 70s prog music and it's very cool what people like Steven Wilson and especially Opeth, with the prominence of "middy" guitar tones on "Heritage", are doing in terms of going back to a more organic and ultimately more musical kind of prog. Speaking of which, what do you think of Kevin Gilbert? His music was a bit like Genesis for the modern era...and the production values were off the charts.Cheers,Vats
    October 1 08:50 AM
  • Irving Thank you! I thought it complemented my Malaysian background fairly well haha. Also, how can you disagree with a movie whose working title is TWOLANDER? (like for real, it is actually called that lmao)
    September 23 04:45 AM
  • OysterizerInsomniac It's all good, looking forward to hearing what you think about it.
    September 9 07:53 PM
  • OysterizerInsomniac Hey back a few months ago you said that you'd review my band when you got the chance, and it's cool that you never did, it would have been a pretty big favor to me so you weren't obligated or anything, but if you're still down (or just want to give it a listen) my band released a full-length which is a lot better than our EP. https://methodact1.bandcamp.com/album/method-act
    September 5 02:12 AM
  • Jom Back-up plan: write the news article "as-is", copy and paste it, hit 'Submit', then edit it again and just copy-paste everything into the text box.
    September 4 12:15 PM
  • Jom What I do is drag the comment box. You see at the lower-right how there's two parallel lines? You can drag the size and scope of it. From there, I pretty much do as Voivod does, where I know that the text won't word wrap. The site will sort out the text correctly from there. Sometimes, if the text box goes unaltered, the line breaks show up.
    September 4 12:14 PM
  • Voivod I use mozilla firefox and I never have breaks in the text.
    September 4 05:53 AM
  • Voivod Well, each time I write a news item with sentences separated the one from the other, when I push "submit" the site makes it a "wall of text". Then, as I am logged in the site, I push [edit] and I separate the sentences the one from the other. The breaks in the lines can be mended by using again the "edit" button, placing the cursor in front of the "separated" segment of the sentence, and moving that "separated" segment close to the rest of the sentence. I hope the aforementioned make some sense.

  • ExplosiveOranges Hey, my name's ExplosiveOranges, a name I pulled out of my ass as quickly as I could, and now I've inadvertently reference Donkey Kong 64, haha.
    August 10 02:07 AM
  • ExplosiveOranges Really? I personally think that it's a great name, because of both the fact that it's one of their best, if not their best album, and it just....... Fits. From the reviews I've read, you seem to be a fairly proggy/psychedelic type guy, so what better name to pick than one of the most acclaimed psychedelic rock albums of all time?
    August 10 12:50 AM
  • ExplosiveOranges You used to be PaperbackWriter, right? I get the feeling you've got a penchant for naming your profile after Beatles songs, haha.
    August 10 12:33 AM
  • ExplosiveOranges You have a lot of 5s.

  • klap dudehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hwf5uRr4iOI
    August 7 05:08 AM
  • lalchimiste I really liked it. Sounds alot like Dopesmoker with better production and SLIGHTLY more 'upbeat' if I can say. It's comfort zone material overall, but the song is great in itself. I wish they would incorporate more elements from Holy Mountain though.
    July 19 07:02 PM
  • lalchimiste Hi sir, new Sleep single here : http://www.npr.org/blogs/allsongs/2014/07/18/332268326/vikings-choice-sleep-the-clarity

  • Sowing Thanks man (if I remember right, you used to be PaperbackWriter). I'm glad you liked the new Antlers and my review for it...Familiars is a beautiful album, probably tied 2nd with Hospice for my favorite of theirs.

    March 21 02:48 PM
  • FearTomorrow Ah, gotcha. I should have known, I mean you've always been one of the nicer guys on here. But that comment did seem a bit surreal, was mostly wondering what the hell it meant haha. And I guess I'm just so used to those Mezz folks tearing me apart.
    March 18 05:27 PM
  • FearTomorrow "--- There was evidence that suggested that not only are you the kind of individual who defecates in the shower, then tosses said feces in the toilet with his hand, you also possibly stand up whenever you wipe yourself. things that mezz just cannot abide. Also, your thoughts on Ja Rule didn't win anyone over either."... I am very interested in this evidence... and what the hell is the Ja Rule thing about?!

    March 7 09:50 AM
  • klap awesome dude. season 2 premiere was amazing. totally agree with you on how americans is unique in this TV age. really more of a family drama than anything else (both phillip/elizabeth and the beemans), and it really pulls it off well. not to mention i think they build tension better than any other show now that breaking bad is off the air
    March 1 08:17 AM
  • GnarlyShillelagh hey, hearing rumblings about a psychrock band called Papir that apparently dropped a pretty great album this month called Papi IIII. I haven't listened to it, but I figured I should mention it to you as it might be right up your alley. Hope you dig it if you check it out (and I hope I'm not just wasting your time hehe)
    February 27 07:06 PM
  • klap haha cool dude, i would've guessed it was you anyways. i'm really trying to spread the gospel of that show bc 1) the ratings weren't great last year, and 2) i think it tends to get overshadowed by other (great) shows, maybe bc it's on FX (although FX has some of my favorite shows these days).
    February 26 06:46 AM
  • SharkTooth This is just out of sheer curiosity, do you respond to user requests for reviews? And if so, would you review the misunderstood by Fresh BeatZ

    December 23 04:28 PM
  • Brostep Thanks! We're a bit behind but assuming all goes well it should be up before the end of the year.
    December 23 10:11 AM

    December 23 08:17 AM
  • OysterizerInsomniac yeah that's totally fine, thanks a lot for helping us out.
    December 23 04:12 AM
  • OysterizerInsomniac cool, thanks a lot man. Here's a link to it: http://methodact1.bandcamp.com/album/the-ice-cream-truck-waits-for-no-man I guess I'd call most of it post-hardcore, but more in the vein of Touche Amore and At the Drive-In (although I'm not saying we're as good as them) than a lot of that more polished-sounding stuff.
    December 23 03:37 AM
  • OysterizerInsomniac hey, someone told me that you sometimes review sputnik users' albums. If you've got the time/feel like it, would you mind reviewing my band's EP? I'd really appreciate it, but it's all good if you don't feel like it.
    December 23 02:46 AM
  • rockandmetaljunkie Hernan, would you like to hear a recommendation ?Check out Avatarium's debut, it is truly great.

  • rockandmetaljunkie Hey dude, what's up ? Thanks 4 asking, I'm fine. I'm attending the courses on the Maritime Academy on a daily basis. Nowdays I'm dedicated to my studies. In 2 months time the examination period will arrive and I must be prepared. After the exams I must embark on my first journey as a cadet.
    December 15 03:59 PM
  • klap loved that fight. i was 110% sure eli was going to bite it this season after yet another betrayal, but i'm glad it worked out the way it did because i've really grown to appreciate his character and that actor over the last half of this season. and it will be fun seeing him work with van alden, two unintentionally hilarious personalities at times
    December 4 12:45 AM
  • klap i just remember you mentioning it in a thread and aside from my roommate you're the only person i know who watches it haha. i'm glad they kept narcisse alive for next season as well, and i'm excited to see more of hoover.
    December 3 09:21 PM
  • klap hey man - what did you think of the boardwalk empire finale?? this might have been my favorite season yet. that last scene was so good
    December 3 07:40 PM
  • JViney Hey man, sorry...I haven't been around for a little while so only just seen your shoutbox post. You've probably done it already but yeah, go ahead!

  • CaptainDooRight just work fam and adventure, album is dm with thrash and black influences, melody plays many parts, grim plays some others. Try the closer track first you might like that, then try burning slaves
    November 6 02:59 PM
  • JamieTwort Hey man, haven't seen you around much lately, hope you're good. If you have a chance you might wanna check out my recent review for Wolf People's Fain. I could definitely see you digging that album. http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/59626/Wolf-People-Fain/

    November 5 06:23 PM
  • Deviant. but coming so soon on the heels of their last bout kind of takes the impact and sting out of any future betrayals and double crossing. The writers do have an incredible knack for crafting such unique antagonists though. I'm genuinely hooked on Narcisse, he's such a fascinating character. And you didn't ruin anything haha, I just thought I'd wait before commenting in case I ended up looking like a dick if the episode ended up contradicting something I'd say, and then you'd be "well actually..."
    October 29 09:12 AM
  • Deviant. Yeah, though I was definitely nervous about his chances in that fight (and as it turns out, he needed help when it mattered the most). Legitimately thought that they were "fin to kill that boy." It's interesting how over the season they've shifted the focus away from Nucky ever so slightly - he's less the main protagonist now, and more just a sphere of influence that everyone else seems to gravitate around. As for Eli; I mean yeah, the sibling rivalry thing is always kind of interesting...
    October 29 09:09 AM
  • Deviant. I avoided replying to this straight away, because when you posted this I hadn't watched the latest episode yet! But I do like that they're choosing to focus more on danger from all sides and angles rather than one primary antagonist, mainly because in the light of s3 it would have more than likely fallen flat. I do sometimes feel though like BE gets a pass from its fans sometimes simply because of how (usually) amazing it is. Like, are they really going to play the Eli vs. Nucky card again?
    October 29 06:34 AM
  • OmairSh Hey Sarg, I'm sure you'll enjoy some stuff on my latest list
    October 28 09:27 PM
  • AliW1993 I thought Havey's comment summed that thread up quite nicely. Lets be honest, most of the hilarious kids joking about Lulu probably didn't know who Lou Reed was before it was released, never mind that so much of the music they listen to owes him a debt. Anyway, I've been blasting his records all day and it's been glorious.

  • Voivod If you come to Greece, don't visit Athens - it's an awful place full of traffic!!! - come to Thessaloniki or go to the islands! Take care :-)
    October 21 09:49 PM
  • Voivod Yeah I know them but I haven't listened to them thoroughly. Socrates Drank The Conium are also awesome prog rockers. I'm more familiar with the work of Vangelis as a keyboard player.
    October 21 09:43 PM
  • Voivod Thanks for the feedback, I passed the link to Jethro, Nag and Jamie Twort. Jethro loved it too! As for Greece, it's a great place to live in the Mediterranean basin in general, it's like a different continent within a continent.

  • Voivod Hernan this is prog rock from a band residing in my hometown, I think it's worth your attention, let me know what you think like whenever - http://motherturtleband.bandcamp.com/album/mother-turtle

  • JViney I like it. Shows a real progression and maturity. However, it does suffer a drop towards the end similar to Suck It
    September 17 07:55 AM
  • JViney Cheers mate. Need to get it done asap really. My powers have escaped me for the time being.

  • Deviant. Did the killing spree just feel a little strange though? I initially assumed he was on a mission for someone (maybe Nucky hired him after he realised how much of a boss he was perhaps?) but it turned out to be just to get to his sister, unless there's more to that than meets the eye
    September 10 05:27 AM
  • Deviant. Watched Boardwalk. I'll always love the show for its attention to detail and the level of restraint it shows, but just as with every other opening episode I'm always left wondering in which direction will the show head in - every season there has never been a clear indicator. Also, HARROW!!

    August 18 11:26 PM
  • mindleviticus I've been doing pretty well man! I just made a new glitch/ambient/minimal/drone EP off my new moniker Hyacinth, and I'm going to university in a week. =D If you wanna hear it it's on my bandcamp if you want the link? :] It's a followup to Our Courtesy. This one's called Our Naivety, it's the "calm after the storm" shall I say. It has a much warmer sound and then at other times, a much colder sound.
    August 18 04:49 AM

  • JamieTwort Oh right. One thing to bare in mind is that some versions of the album don't include the last track, Rolling Stone (23:54), which is actually one of the highlights of the album so it would be worth trying to find a version that includes that song. It was omitted when the album was first released on CD so that the album could fit on a single disc. The song is included on the recent reissue of the album (2012).
    July 16 08:37 AM
  • JamieTwort Hey man, check this out when you get a chance: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_XH_g5gf-MI It's good place to start with Rypdal as it's one of the more accessible songs on the Odyssey album.

    June 23 01:01 AM
  • VlacDrac You need some Aphex Twin's goodness in your ratings too. You should listen to SAW 85-92, great place to start.

  • JamieTwort Thanks man.
    June 18 06:05 PM
  • rockandmetaljunkie Hey man how are you ?I was constantly digging Sabbath's "13" during the previous week and today I just jammed "The Devil You Know" before re-checking "13". I don't know but I think that "TDYK" sounds way more sinister and heavy. It's overall a better album and more consistent. After finishing the comparisons I thought that if instead of Ozzy we had Dio on the vocals the album would be superb. Just imagine Dio's vocals in tracks like Zeitgeist, Age Of Reason, or Damaged Soul. What do you think?
    June 18 01:41 AM
  • TheNotrap Yeah "Buzzard" is an awesome song.
    June 15 12:04 PM

  • Gnocchi yeah good dude, workin on a new site or two, jammin some metals you wish you could stick your ears to. m/ It's been good. Feeling like i'm in the right space
    June 12 05:56 AM
  • VlacDrac :o It happens the same thing to me, and it's funny because I can't sleep without being covered with sheets either, It's kinda contradictory sleeping with a fan on and being covered at the same time, but it works for me, even if it's to goddamned hot I sleep covered in sheets.
    June 11 03:47 AM
  • VlacDrac Different tastes. For example I can't sleep without listening to the sound of a fan, many people wouldn't do that, but I do because it helps me sleep.
    June 11 02:01 AM
  • Gnocchi Whats up man, you been outta touch recently.
    June 10 12:43 PM
  • VlacDrac I have just recently came across at your comment in the "Hipster Sex music" list, if you think having sex with music is annoying, try doing it with Mezzanine, you won't be disappointed.
    June 9 10:47 PM

  • SlaveState Hey man, I know I hit you up about this before, but my second demo is definitely a more interesting listen than the first and if you gave it a short review it would mean a lot. If you still don't have time, that's cool. http://univers-cicatrice.bandcamp.com/album/darkgaze
    June 5 02:51 AM
  • Necrotica Just in case you're interested, of course
    June 4 06:38 AM
  • Necrotica Hey bro, I heard you left Alt Review? I might actually suggest you come back pretty soon. It looks like I'm gonna be the editor (Lara and I are probably gonna boot Dylan) and we'll be working together to push the site in a positive direction :)
    June 4 06:38 AM
  • Cygnatti Thanks! ^_^
    June 1 07:36 PM
  • rockandmetaljunkie Hernan, can I suggest you an album ? If you're interested in eclectic, diverse guitar sounds check out "Jeff Beck's Guitar Shop". The album has no vocals, all of the music is instrumental. It's very relaxing and quite...different. If you find some time give it a few spins, I think you'll dig it.
    June 1 01:27 AM
  • rockandmetaljunkie I'm 24 btw.
    May 30 01:02 AM
  • Wow dude that's impressive. I expected you to be at your middle-late 20's. I mean, being so young and having such an eclectic musical taste, so diverse and so tasteful, is very rare these days, not to mention the excellent writing style you have showed us with all of these reviews. I would really like to meet you and have a little chat with you. You seem like the ideal person to talk to about music.
    May 30 01:01 AM
  • rockandmetaljunkie Btw, can I ask you some personal questions ? Are from America ? How old are you ? Are you currently employed, or are you studying ?
    May 29 12:09 AM
  • rockandmetaljunkie Also this week, I'm taking seminars in welding. You see, that skill is considered essential in a seafarer's career.
    May 29 12:07 AM
  • rockandmetaljunkie I'm fine dude, thanks for asking. I'm currently studying to give exams for a cab licence. I have failed already 2 times at these exams, mostly because I didn't take the whole process very seriously, so I'm intending to pass this time.
    May 29 12:04 AM
