  • ScuroFantasma Hey Cap, finally got round to giving your new album a proper spin, really enjoying it man!
    June 10 04:39 AM
  • Jethro42 Well I'm 54 years old, it surely has something to do. I'm cool with those who are cool I guess. Also, my English has its limits, so I'm often searching for the correct word, and it surely doesn't look too natural at times. It must look pretty simple. And I'm unable to get angry in English lol
    June 1 11:24 AM
  • Jethro42 Self Service is excellent, but I enjoy the rest still more (their last one not included, but it's still great). And for my passion of prog, just like Obelix, I fell in the potion's pot when I was a kid ;)
    May 31 06:53 PM
  • Jethro42 You know your prog, mate! You should try Landberk, dark ecclectic prog, some Phideaux light sympho prog, very melodic, similar to Ayreon but not metal at all. Finally, Gazpacho, a pastoral, laid back and dark atmosphere inspired by Marillion. You also got Renaissance, Premiata Forneria Marconi and Harmonium that come to mind as well, but I assume you already know them. I think you're in for a good ride ;)
    May 31 04:42 PM
  • Jethro42 Hello you! Well it's a hard question. For not wanting to touch generic bands of the 70s, I'd say Triumvirat (mostly 2nd and 3rd albums), Maneige (the discog), and Finisterre. Fabio Zuffanti, the bassman, released many interesting prog rock projects such as this one, an album that I like very much;

    May 27 12:31 PM
  • Sevengill yo cap, do you have interest in your stuff being put out by a label? I know Black Noise is in the market for new bands and might be game to give Arcane Sages a print run. they're the one that did Five Treasures. I can give Kanaglia a shout on your behalf.
    May 27 12:30 PM
  • Jacquibim birb videos are never fail to put a smile on my face, also check my latest review and the corresponding album, I bet you will dig. Also seconding gill's lyrics request.
    May 21 08:20 PM
  • Sevengill sweet, I'll check it out asap! do you have lyrics posted?
    May 19 09:29 PM

  • DarkNoctus agreeeeed! so good! but eh, in truth i'm sick of sharing my opinion on music. i basically just rate stuff and tend not to comment with anything negative these days.

  • Sevengill It's not a matter of me wanting to do it or not, but I'm sorta scattered everywhere at the moment o.e If you'd like to get it done before the summer, I'll totally get you finding someone who's going to be quicker. Otherwise I'm totally game to record it in May/June.
    March 13 10:50 PM

    January 27 12:30 PM
  • JohnnyOnTheSpot new Lord of the Isles is pretty nice
    January 19 06:04 PM
  • AnimalsAsSummit for sure man, not sure how you feel about brutal dm but its within that realm, except with this album they take it to a very surreal extreme
    January 18 12:15 PM
  • AnimalsAsSummit check out the album "Haematoma" by Pustulated. Very underrated death metal album
    January 18 10:47 AM
  • Sevengill yeeessssss this is great. I don't know if I'll be able to write and record for a few weeks, but I ought to have a lot of February and March open for it. I can jam some ideas until then.
    January 5 07:57 PM
  • AnimalsAsSummit and yeah taking the veil gets me so hype dude ha that song is sublime and the perfect opener basically
    January 4 09:27 AM
  • AnimalsAsSummit brilliant trees is a 5, beehive is my fave, then blemish, then id probably put brilliant trees, dead bees, and gone to earth as tied, though i still consider all those albums a 5 loland i appreciate that man, atmosphere has always been what interests me most. happy to hear that it shows on this one
    January 4 09:25 AM
  • AnimalsAsSummit hell yeah man ive been practicing the vocals for this album months before i released it. before that i was very mediocre with super low guttural type vox
    January 3 11:22 PM
  • AnimalsAsSummit all vox and keyboard, except i did the drums on the fourth track and my drummer finna went on the keys.
    January 3 10:17 AM
  • AnimalsAsSummit thanks man, great to hear that! i agree, i like jamming for fun and also trying to focus our energies on something more tangible like this; the freeform medium i find more and more fascinating. glad you like the drumming, i have found that changing the stylistic tendencies of the percussionist can have a profound difference on the atmosphere and direction of the music, far more than i couldve realized early on.
    January 1 11:30 PM
  • AnimalsAsSummit new album out man, heres the link -
    January 1 08:31 PM
  • Sevengill I mean do you want me to mix in the drums to what you send, or would you just like the raw drum track to put in yourself. we'll figure it out though, no rush. What kind of vocals are you doing?
    December 30 04:34 PM
  • bnelso55 Oh, good. Thank you for saying that. I hoped that the site would be of interest to people, but I was worried that sharing those thoughts might be perceived as corny or pretentious. That's certainly not my intent.
    December 30 12:09 AM
  • Sevengill Awesome! Yeah that sounds like a good idea. Would you like to mix them once it's recorded or shall I do it here?
    December 29 11:42 PM
  • Sevengill aww sweet, I'm home now so I can jam to those tracks too. and yeah no review for Dzo yet. next album ought to get some attention though.
    December 29 05:32 PM
  • kingdedethefifth Yeah I mostly just like physical copies because it just feels better almost, just having something tangible. Plus CD's are falling off way to hard which is sad. Also I love Angra lol I went through a hardcore Angra phase for like a month in my Sophomore year.
    December 29 01:17 AM
  • kingdedethefifth Ok my bad, really used to ordering physical copies and I have never bought off bandcamp.
    December 28 10:51 PM
  • Sevengill Christmas was good but life's about to suck real hard because the week of scuttled my grad class. And I don't know if I'm ever going to find someone to sing female vox on this damn album at this rate. You?
    December 28 08:24 PM
  • kingdedethefifth I was asking if you knew when the grief and justice album might be in. I've never bought off band camp
    December 28 06:52 PM
  • bnelso55 Thank you for taking the time to check it out! All of the music is mine and I had a little help with the production. That's not one of my strengths. Not sure if songwriting is either, but I do enjoy putting songs together. Do you have any critiques? Anything you think could be improved? Thank you again.
    December 28 06:44 PM
  • kingdedethefifth I meant the one i just got from bandcamp
    December 28 05:18 PM
  • kingdedethefifth Lol I thought you got like the drummer from ****ing Ulcerate or Flo Mournier or something xD but that's awesome. Looking forward to the release. Also would you happen to know when the album should be in around? Im from Northeast Pennsylvania if that helps
    December 28 01:22 PM
  • kingdedethefifth Yeah thats awesome whos the pro drummer exactly?
    December 28 03:14 AM
  • kingdedethefifth so i just ordered the album off band camp finally after saying i would for a month xD
    December 28 12:23 AM
  • AnimalsAsSummit indeed, glad you asked, been working on a new album since early november. its an attempt at taking some aspects of brutal death metal and taking them in a different direction. Its also a concept record and is a fantasy-based, oceanic tale. i posted some details about it in my soundoff if you wanna check; it'll be a count to altek album, and im just about done with it. release date is jan 2 :)
    December 24 12:05 PM
  • AnimalsAsSummit dug the album you rec'd man, i found it very relaxing and warm
    December 23 11:17 PM
  • AnimalsAsSummit no problem, love checking your stuff man, always refreshing. i haven't heard that release but im gonna get on it asap
    December 22 09:47 AM
  • AnimalsAsSummit i like the vibes, the first track you sent me gets much better once the soloing kicks in, im not a huge fan of that intro riff that repeats for about a min. the last two are quite a bit oriental sounding to my ears and i like them the best, also like how you utilize such few layers yet still get away with a solid sound; how'd you go about making these? one critique ill give is that the mixing and melody meshing on these tracks (esp the first one) sounds bit awkward, but it may just be my ears.
    December 21 10:58 PM
  • AnimalsAsSummit checkin em out now man!
    December 21 10:32 PM
  • AnimalsAsSummit send it my way man!
    December 20 07:33 PM
  • KILL atm kinda doing nothing. work is a bitch and i broke my arm a few months back so still tryin to get back to hard tremming m/
    December 17 08:46 PM
  • KILL i dig both and its easier to find dudes who can play single note bass riffs and not running all up the fretlord like a crazy person like the metal s***. i was too trve for my city bro no one could even keep up with the riffz
    December 16 05:59 PM
  • KILL this is an example if you care to jam
    December 16 12:56 PM
  • KILL rly? cos that long version was made like 5 years ago. i dont even remember a shorter version lol. and i couldnt find any band members for the metal s*** so doing more rock kinda stuff but still rly enjoy it
    December 16 12:50 PM
  • KILL haha no dude thats just the old one still, i haven't done any metal band stuff in years tbh
    December 16 09:19 AM
  • bnelso55 Thanks again! It's take a while for me to put reviewers together, but I do try to give them a lot of consideration. I'm glad to hear that shows.
    December 15 02:16 PM
  • bnelso55 Thanks Cap. There are some talented users here and I like trying to help draw attention to their work. I keep up with Trvth and Seed of Nothing, too, but other (better) reviewers always beat me to the punch. I spun Grief and Justice a couple times recently and I just realized that I have neglected to rate much of your discography! I'll need to get to that.
    December 15 09:27 AM
  • Evokaphile Yeah Triangles isnt nearly as strong. Love how ambitious they are but that one is a tad headstrong and bloated. Still excellent, but it feels more like a hint at their real potential instead of an actualized manifestation of it.
    December 14 04:58 PM
  • Sevengill this has a ton of cool riffs but I feel like you could get a lot more mileage out of them by having some repeatead seconds, like ABACBC form or something. or if you'd just like it to be a through-composed whirlwind that works too.
    December 14 02:53 PM
  • Sevengill oh s*** yeah lemme go jam that.
    December 14 02:47 PM
  • Sevengill I'll figure it out. I've been digging my own hole. any progress on the album?
    December 14 02:38 PM
  • Sevengill currently obsessing over the Winterkaelte tape I just got in the mail (see respective thread). I'm failing my one business class but I just started meds that ought to help my depressive state. you?
    December 14 01:35 PM
  • Evokaphile Just checkout Contradiction by Schammasch. Saw u 5'd it. This thing is a ****ing masterpiece. A majorly overlooked masterpiece.
    December 13 10:54 PM
  • Evokaphile Got any "must hear 2k16" for me aside from stuff Ive rated? Wouldnt mind squeezing in a couple more gems before years end.
    December 13 05:06 PM

    December 5 02:44 AM
  • Sevengill sweet zombie jesus you write long albums. my last two were 39-40 minutes and the new one's gonna be 44 or so. this ought to be a lot of room to explore and have some fun.
    December 5 01:41 AM
  • Sevengill man watching all these JSM / Danny Walker / Brann Dailor videos is getting me hyped to do your album.
    December 5 12:45 AM

    December 2 03:20 PM
  • Sevengill As long as I know what they are, yeah.
    December 2 02:19 AM
  • kingdedethefifth Well aren't you the flatterer eh xD i used to be really obsessed with supporting small bands
    December 2 01:54 AM
  • Sevengill for my reviews, I mean. I'm a staff writer at The Sonic Sensory. used to be Muzik Dizcovery but the site founder changed to mostly radio.
    December 2 01:07 AM
  • Sevengill I'd had the ideas bouncing around and it's one to post on my main site too. Quality album deserves to be analyzed and enjoyed.
    December 2 12:55 AM
  • Sevengill I couldn't help myself. Your album deserved a better review.
    December 1 11:22 PM
  • kingdedethefifth Not a problem man, it's hard to keep making music without a lot of support. I feel like I kind of butchered the review so I will definitely make some big edits. When I get the chance I am definitely buying the record.
    December 1 11:01 PM
  • kingdedethefifth got it done man. tell me what you think!
    December 1 09:29 PM
  • Astral Abortis I had Impetigo in mind
    December 1 08:17 PM
  • Sevengill Today was a good day for my ear so I got a few new albums in (Brocken Moon, Mispyrming, Gaoth, Deitus). Myspyrming had some cool stuff, though I'd like to have heard some more ambient sections to balance their furious attack.
    December 1 05:18 PM
  • Sevengill nope, spinning it now.
    December 1 02:49 PM
  • kingdedethefifth I'll try finishing it today, if not tomorrow but hell today should be fine sorry for neglecting it :p
    December 1 01:28 PM
  • Sevengill Naw man it's all good. You can call me whatever you want. Unlike many LGBT people, I don't look for reasons to be offended and make people feel bad. It reflects poorly on the rest of us, you know?
    December 1 12:13 AM
  • Sevengill No, it's not tinnitus. That's a ringing. This isn't hearing damage -- my hearing is still perfect, just has the interference over it. It comes and goes and last time it lasted about a week before the medicine took care of it. Just a maintainance thing. Shouldn't be a big deal but it is annoying having to listen to music on like, 20% volume haha.
    November 30 11:59 PM
  • Sevengill I'll use some of those techniques Jamie showed me after the show the other night. he gave me a one-minute lesson on single hand rolls and how to use finger and palm balance to create instant power to cymbals. Not that I have a prayer of mastering either.
    November 29 12:47 AM
  • Sevengill yeah man I'll just turn into Jamie Saint Merat for a few days while recording, that sounds perfect. nbd.
    November 29 12:27 AM
  • Sevengill probably best to do everything but the vocals. those are the most fluid as far as timing so they generally come last. alright cool, I'll send you an example of what might work.
    November 29 12:04 AM
  • Sevengill haha yeah it's a good deal. nice to come home to that every couple weeks. yeah, doing it all at once will give the most consistent sound because all the levels can be set and such. I can mic up the set a few different ways depending on what you want it to sound like.
    November 28 11:54 PM
  • Sevengill
    November 28 11:44 PM
  • Sevengill it's plenty progressive but I think the tracks could easily be twice as long. they're packed with riffs that could use some more breathing room. but if you prefer an explosive 4 minutes, then by all means.
    November 28 09:15 PM
  • Sevengill there's a lot of cool stuff in these two songs. you could definitely get more mileage out of the riffs with the right repetition and song structure. I like it!
    November 28 08:16 PM
  • AnimalsAsSummit ah i see, well you certainly cant go wrong if you achieved what you wanted. ill give it more listens with this in mind
    November 28 09:07 AM
  • Sevengill those low vox sound just like Pekka from Kalmah and that makes me happy
    November 28 02:31 AM
  • Sevengill nah, not me just the kick drum. I'm enjoying this. it's like 75% my thing. those machine-gun drums bother me a little but the variation is great and the keys tickle my fancy.
    November 28 02:27 AM
  • Sevengill TRIGGERED
    November 28 02:16 AM
  • Sevengill no I'mma put it on now
    November 28 02:08 AM
  • AnimalsAsSummit thanks man gonna check!
    November 27 09:57 AM
  • necropig Check Setentia too. New album is pay what you want on bandcamp
    November 26 04:44 PM
  • necropig Yo, check VI and Nehemah. Some good BM imo
    November 26 07:22 AM
  • Sevengill ate captain. You've got my email yeah?
    November 23 09:10 AM
  • swallowtales Will do yo, I have your album alpha already from a while ago and enjoyed that :)
    November 23 01:54 AM
  • Sevengill damn son, somebody's got on their horse. what've you got so far for a concept?
    November 22 10:02 PM
  • kingdedethefifth The riffs definetly rock as well as the spoken word passages. Props on the album dude!
    November 22 08:13 PM
  • Sevengill 'preciate it. yeah I'm excited about this new thing. I want to do it like...yesterday.
    November 22 07:32 PM
  • kingdedethefifth Yeah sure man I'll listen although a review may not be possible until likely next week (kind of busy thanksgiving week)
    November 22 05:47 PM
  • Astral Abortis I gave it a listen but I wasn't feeling it as much as Black Horse Plague. This one's less my style but it's still well done, I can tell you put a lot of effort in

    November 19 12:27 PM
  • SandwichBubble I'm not gonna rate your new album. I'm nothing if not a man of my word. But deleting perfectly valid ratings is not something I plan on doing, no matter how nice or cool you may be (and you are being quite cordial, which is respectable). I truly did go and listen through the whole discog when rating. So, if anything, I would like an explanation as to why you want those ratings gone, when they are more than fair. (Black Horse Plague | 2.5) and (Trvth Be Told | 2) are far from "troll" ratings.

    November 17 02:08 AM
  • Sevengill I hired a drummer at $250 per song. same guy that did Prevail. sweet, no need to rush it. just make sure it's in time for the year-end lists ;)
    November 16 12:02 PM
  • Sevengill Dzo-nga was done on $0 and Isforde on $1000 for the drumming so I've no plans to drop that much again soon lol. NEW TRVTH, WHEN
    November 16 11:16 AM
  • Sevengill haha dude it was a professionally done album at a legit studio. that's typical for an album of that recording quality.
    November 16 01:51 AM
  • Sevengill My solo stuff is free, but Prevail was a group effort of like eight or nine people and cost like $5500 to make so...I was hoping it would gain a little more traction. Oh well, live and learn.
    November 16 12:06 AM
  • Sevengill Yeah it's been a fun one to make. Hopefully I'll sell more than six copies of it (my total haul on Prevail since it was released last year).
    November 15 08:58 PM
  • Sevengill Awesome, I really appreciate it. Yeah for sure, here's a song from the album, though it still needs female vocals (the violin replies are placeholders, noted in parentheses).
    November 14 01:28 PM
  • Sevengill Thank you! Yeah that album was a lot of fun to make. The climax of Cape Evans is actually where Aaron takes the lead for a verse -- he has a higher and better voice than I do, and he killed it. Really glad you enjoyed it. I've just been churning out music lately, with my classical stuff, Dzo-nga, and now Isforde (more on that later). Think you could throw down a soundoff, even from just your SB comment?
    November 14 12:11 AM
  • Sevengill That would be ace. Thanks, man.
    November 13 03:22 PM
  • Sevengill Haha yeah it was from 1925. I considered putting the date at the beginning like a journal entry but DarkNoctus read it and I didn't want to bother him. I instead did that to open Prevail.
    November 12 11:42 PM
  • Sevengill Queer meaning strange, obviously. I think feeling sudden, inexplicable feelings of terror qualifies as that.
    November 12 11:04 PM
  • Sevengill The spoken part at the beginning is from the diary of mountaineer J. Norman Collie about an experience he had on Ben Macdui in Scotland. It's one of the most famous accounts of the Greyman legend, which is what inspired the album. It's all very hazy and conceptual, but it at least creates a setting for your imagination to explore during the album.
    November 12 10:26 PM
  • AnimalsAsSummit agreed hard man, and no problem, thats one of my favorite things about the site! overall the community is solid asf
    November 12 08:47 PM
  • Sevengill Hu Man's got some oomph to it. not half bad. the drums are mixed to the breaking point so there's not much clarity but the actual performance is cool. love me some deep cuts! I'll trade you the remaster of that Taravana EP. I think it's def worth its salt now.
    November 12 02:01 AM
  • AnimalsAsSummit sure man! sounds good
    November 11 04:24 PM
  • AnimalsAsSummit bro what happened to your other trvth releases on here?
    November 11 10:31 AM
  • AnimalsAsSummit thanks man, its primarily based on some 'transcendental experiences' (unjust term tbh, but i want the music to speak for the depth of these events) i had a few years ago. one of the weirdest things that ever happened to me. a lot of influence from that was put into this. i feel like sometimes music works far better than words to express personal moments of awe. i get a sense you can relate to a degree, first time i heard black horse plague it was magic bro :)
    November 5 10:01 AM
  • AnimalsAsSummit new album is here! enjoy if u get to it, its pretty short -
